Hmm. That would be a bummer. My E36 has an aftermarket oil temp sensor from the previous owner, so I don't expect to see it via OBDII on that car. It seems silly to me to have that information available but not have any way to access it.

First yeah im actually shocked that a car such as the m235i doesnt have a oil temp gauge and that you actually have to buy the tech package to basically get it (to be honest i find it more useful than the premium package, extended instrument cluster, navigation with real time traffic information [i dont use my navigation on my GTI i basically got it like that for the LED/bi xenon lights] but it has helped a couple of times) the only thing I don't know maybe somebody could help is, if I don't get the premium package I don't get keyless entry? then what? i get a regular key to be honest I havent seen one in a modern Bmw in a long time. A little off topic the Android users can use the torque app and get a bluetooth thing for the obd2 it gets fairly good readings (except horsepower and torque) but all the oil temp, coolant, exhaust temp and all that you can get them thru the app here is the google play link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...g.prowl.torque
PS: Im not sure how the app calculates horsepower and torque but I don't think it has to do with the OBDII i think it does it with the weight you put for your vehicle and some other things but in my GTI has been pretty innacurate (i wish i had 350 bhp and 370 ft lb torque)

Keyless entry is standard. What is not is what they call comfort access where you don't need to press a button in your remote to unlock the car and can start the cat with the remote in your pocket or anywhere. The standard is a remote to unlock and you stick the key fob in the ignition and press start. It wouldn't be an actual key either way.

As far as I'm aware, you don't need to stick the key fob in any ignition "slot" even without comfort access. I think that died with the E92. They're all keyless push button start now. They even come with an insert for the cupholder that includes a key fob shaped slot to place the fob in while you drive. So really, all you need is to unlock the car with the fob in your pocket, get in and go.

Did it really? My reference point is with the E9X's and that was the case then. I guess then all you get with that extra option is being able to unlock the doors and trunk with the remote in your pocket versus pulling it out and pressing an unlock buttom or trunk open button.

It's a cool feature but I wouldn't pay extra for that feature if it wasn't part of a package I already wanted since you still have to have the key in your pocket. For a girl not having to dig through a purse to unlock the doors, it might be worth the extra cost.

I am not sure what the demo car I drove had on it - but the sales guy showed me how to unlock the car by running your fingers along the bottom of the door handle - almost like you were tickling it.

But you're right - there's no"slot" for the key to go into like on my E92 or E82.

False. All bmws have comfort go now from inside the car, standard equipment. Comfort access is now solely dealing with outside accessibility. Basically don't care much about comfort access anymore.

Did you read my follow up comment? A little late with that as I already acknowledged this.

Right here:

i paid for comfort entry. mainly for the cool boot lift up bit haha, but also seemed worth having the upgrade that meant i didnt have to get keys out to get into the car especially when once in the car you dont need the key anyway. was only £300 or something but yes all 2 series have keyless go anyway

Then if thats the case I don't see the point on getting the premium package...auto dimming mirrors, eh, comfort keyless...i had to get the key out of my pocket big deal...leather...to be honest i prefer sensatec, and ambience lightning/garage door opener, yeah they would be cool but i rather had more useful things like extended cluster (with oil temp) GPS with traffic (more useful that any of the things in the premium package) bmw apps, bluetooth smartphone integration...sure...and on top of that cheaper...

Breaking News: This made me think to look at the instrument panel for my 2011 328i. There is no temp gauge on the 2011 328 either. I never missed it.

I now recall a direct quote from the BMW Professional Driver / BMW Genius I was paired with at the BMW Performance Driving School when I had the opportunity to run every 2013 model on their tracks...

"Today's BMW's are designed so that you do not need to warm up, you just hit start and go!"

That said, regardless of the weather or launch speed I have NEVER waited to warm up my Bimmer.

Any thoughts?

I hear you with your logic but they did include a temp gauge on the 335i's of that generation, just not the 328i's. So, the thought is that a performance oriented car should have that feature.

I'm leasing so my thought is that they should have included it and it would have been nice as I look at it all the time in my current 335i but since they didn't, I could care less if I tear up the car since it is a lease and they'll have to fix it.

That makes sense. And this is a 2'35. so I guess one would feel it was missed based on the fact that 335's had it.

That said..... It does have the temp warnings

So that is absolutely cool... but I like my A/C. where does the air blow or redirect? Do you feel air/draft through the seams? what happens when you turn up the heat, it looks like it would melt.

Not at all, there very little lack of airflow from today's modern A/C units.

I think for the universal remote you need the premium pkg. for me, that is the main feature but $850 is an expensive built in remote.

It looks nice. But the fact that there is another screen right above it doing nothing to me puts it out of place. That main screen should be able to display anything. Hopefully one day BMW and other car makers can go with something like Android or whatever to allow people to develop little apps to do whatever they want.
