G'aaaack! BMW makes a Hyundai-looking CUV that's heavier than a full size minivan. Why?

I can't believe how they are shamelessly pimping and destroying their brand - what an ugly turd. Shouldn't be called a 2-series anything. This is in the same family as an M235?

Oh Lord, please tell me they aren't already slapping ///M badges on the fenders.

Norbert Reithofer is seriously cocking up BMW right now. It's like he's taking advice from Rick Wagoner.

Why do all of you guys care? Really? Is it an afront to your manhood that BMW is trying to expand its lineup to appeal to a wider group of consumers so it can sell more cars and compete in another sector of the market? It still makes cars that you will like. It went back to making a small coupe to please a certain group that did not like how big their 3 series was getting. They are just trying to make cars that people want. I think they should be applauded for trying to please everybody and not just a select group that wants to feel special or superior.

+1 - Porsche makes SUV's. They still race and sell sportscars. World still turning. Bottom line - dont like a car dont get it. Simple.

dilution of the brand. you start building a ton more widgets, the quality of your widgets decreases. The point of this car is greed, plain and simple. They've basically dressed a MINI Cooper in a tuxedo.

for those of us who have been with BMW for 20+ years, it's kind of like being a Metallica fan back in the Kill 'Em All days and then listening to their last album.

Its capitalism surely you dont need a lecture about that. Again take a look at Porsche. They actually make more than anyone in profit per unit. They make SUV's. Im glad BMW has you as a customer. Ive been a customer as well going back to the 90's and 2000's as well.

They will probably have more customers by building the Active Tourer and then that allows nice performance BMW's to continue to be built. This cannot be a surprise to anyone here with half an active mind.

Looks similar to the Toyota Venza from the side. Seems a little bit too small for my liking (for an MPV).

It doesn't. Have checked with BMW and his figures are miles out. Most versions weigh about 1500kgs. Pretty good.

Like you I thought ouch! no rear wiper. But it does have one. It is concealed very elegantly under the rear 'spoiler' at the top of the rear screen.

There is no split tailgate on the X1 or X3. I prefer the whole hatch opening myself. And on the Active Tourer you can open it by just waggling your foot under the rear bumper. great if you have dogs or armfuls of shopping.
