^^ Agreed. Shame such an expensive option when Benz have them standard and only a AUD$2k option in Golf R...

Must. Have.

Also must see that diffuser on different colors. I should probably avoid these sights, though, as cost will probably be a prohibitive factor once I'm done shelling out for the LSD.

kind of weird that DSC needs to be off for the LSD to be active....

You would be turning of DSC all the time :-s

Where does it say that?

I thought LSD was always active. DSC just engages at a different point. LSD is part of the car mechanically, I don't think it can be turned off or not? At least that is my understanding.

in the press release

"A highlight in the suspension area is the BMW M Performance limited-slip differential available for the BMW M235i Coupé. When the dynamic stability control function DSC is deactivated, the torque-sensitive mechanical limited-slip differential in the rear axle ensures traction-optimised distribution of drive torque between the rear wheels. It reduces the slip that occurs on the wheel with less grip by transferring more drive power to the other wheels using a blocking effect. This converts engine power into forward momentum as effectively as possible so as to be able to accelerate out of a bend even more dynamically, for instance."

Ah okay. I saw this and I assumed it would be very similar

Without LSD: 1 wheels slips then DSC gets activated.
With LSD: 1 Wheel starts to slip, other wheel grips, both wheels slip then DSC gets activated.

I added an LSD in my GLI and every body was curious about traction control.
Now traction control gets activated after both wheels brake loose.

LSD increases traction, improves handling, increases stability and causes DSC to cut-in later when also fitted. Guess the delayed cut-in of DSC is because the LSD is preventing the traction slip in the first place.

Thus it appears both LSD and DSC do work together ok.

But yes, to fully have the benefits of the LSD, everything must be turned off

Wait so does DSC need to be deactivated to allow the LSD to do its thing? Or will the LSD delay the engagement of DSC until BOTH wheels begin to slip??

when the LSD is on, the DSC is off no matter how many wheels slip... that's what i understand from the press realease

So if you manage to get both wheels slipping with the LSD on, start praying :-)

Seems like it from this

DSC is on when you start the engine. (LSD off)
DTC activated if you press the DTC button. (LSD off)
DTC & DSC off when pressing and holding DTC button for 5 seconds (LSD on)

So it will be activated when in Sport+?

Or we have to have it in Sport+ and hold down the traction button for 5 seconds?

Also, M Performance exhaust is a must. Sounds amazing

You cannot turn a LSD on, or off... It is a mechanical device. Always working.

+1

I think what the press release is saying, is that once you turn off all the nannies, the LSD is fully active and at your disclosure.

That is,

A) No LSD
One wheel slips, DTC/DSC turns on to cut power

B) LSD
Both wheels slip, DTC/DSC turns on to cut power

Basically, DTC/DSC should be activating less with an LSD, but it will still cut in if the wheels are losing grip out of spec.

1+

My guess is that DSC kicks in long before the LSD would have any impact.

Turn off DSC, then get a little loose and you'll see/feel the LSD working.

still no pricing on LSD or performance body parts. Pricing has come out for interior trim, exhaust and steering wheel (digital display and non digital display).

No delivery times or prices on LSD and carbon spoiler though

I spoke with a very tight lipped BMW employee in charge of educating the sales people. After some badgering about getting my parts done at port vs dealership he said with my order it would all be dealer. The best he'd tell me is "Summer". I saw performance parts come out for I believe the X5 4 months after release. This would match this same time frame. Nobody at BMW seems to want to talk about it so we wait... My dealer said he can order it when it appears on the website so I guess they find out when we do.

Has to be because you are based out of the EU.

Here in the US you can only get the shifter, mirror covers and steering wheel.
