Quick question about MPE

Can anyone tell me exactly how far does the exhaust pipe extend from the muffler? I am doing some cutting and want to make a cut in the exact place as OEM MPE. Thanks

I suggest lining up the MPE next to the stock exhaust and marking the pipe that way so the cut is perfect.

Also leave the pipe on the long side. MUCH easier to trim more after you do a test fit than put some back.

I don't have MPE and shop will be welding. I will probably install M2 exhaust and was thinking of cutting in same place as MPE unless resonator in M2 is different, then might cut the whole thing.

Just have the shop that's doing the work look at it then. What you are talking about is stupid easy for a pro.

Yeah, I get it. I just had something in my mind but whatever, its probably stupid anyway

You know if 2nd resonator is the same on M2 as on M235i?

Believe so but not 100%. Know the 240 setup is different. Someone did the swap already and modified the diffuser to accommodate, I am sure if you search you can come up with it.

See post #12.

I strongly suggest not welding and going with a band clamp arrangement like they use on the MPE. It will give you FAR more flexibility with aligning everything and removing later on. There's NO WAY you'll be able to get it perfect otherwise.

Thanks. Will see what the shop wants to do, clamp or weld. I'll tell them to cut at 7 inches, in that case if I or someone ever wants to change back to stock or MPE they can cut it again and put a clamp

Ps. Did you disable ASD with MPE? Does it really make a huge difference in audio quality if you turn that off?

I have it off with my MPE. The stereo sounds much better and the MPE is as loud as I would want it to be. I take work calls in the car all the time and I'm right at the limit of what I can deal with for that.
