Occasional "Jolt" in power after installing Injen Intake
So I installed an Injen intake to my m235 this past weekend and have been noticing a jolt in power, like the transmission disengages for a split second, at around 2k rpm when the turbo starts spooling up under higher acceleration. I have a JB4 but it happens on map 0 (basically stock boost) too. I guess the JB4 suppresses the CEL when its on because when I'm on map 0 the CEL turns on quickly and I forget the exact code but its basically the MAF measuring too much air. I retightened all the connections and sprayed the sensor down with MAF cleaner but its still happening. Any ideas? Thanks!

If you do some reading on the n54tech forums, these are common issues with aftermarket intakes because of the MAF readings. They are used for modeling the air intake in the low/mid throttle ranges. It has been suggested to unplug the MAF which makes the DME rely on the wideband O2 sensor full-time and smooths out the overall power delivery. I've been meaning to give it a try.

The #1 negative is you get a CEL because an active fault is always present In addition, due to some recent changes with the JB4 in the latest firmware, the US versions will be removing the auto-delete function to become 50 state compliant (ughhh). So you would have to clear the CEL each time you start the car, or look into a BEF (back-end-flash) that removes this check.
You only disconnect the electrical plug. Otherwise you might get a vacuum leak |

I'm guessing having the CEL there, won't change the how the car performs granted it's the consistent codes. Problem becomes the dealer now, there gonna question the code that pops each time you start the car? I only use the dealer for free oil changes and wouldn't want them trying to fix a CEL that's unccessay.. |

Well, I unplugged the MAF sensor and everything is back to normal. Smooth power delivery through the whole power band and no random jolts. The gear shifts are also smoother. I haven't updated the firmware on my jb4 for about a year so my cel is still auto cleared.
Is it worthwhile to upgrade my firmware and loose the auto clear function or is it not a big deal? |

Glad to hear car runs well with MAF unplugged..
A post on that thread from Terry: "For us to be able get the 50-state status for it you'll be forced to update the interface (we'll expire older ones so they don't function) and also blocked from loading non-compliant firmware." Looks to me we don't have an option. |
