Traded in my M235i for Focus RS.

As the title says, I traded my m235i for a Focus RS. Its been nice talking with you guys/gals, this is a cool forum. I'll still be lurking around on here, just not as much. So far I like this forum better than the RS forum I joined, but I haven't really participated over there yet.

I'm still on a list for a M2, but not sure I will get one, at least not next year, maybe in 2020 if they're still being produced.

This is my third new car in the last four years so I may try to hang onto the RS for a little while, plus I really like it. I like it more than I thought I would.

My M235i felt faster than the RS, but the Focus RS is more fun to drive and the brakes are much better.

Glad you're happy with the change. I couldn't see trading my M235i for a Focus RS but hey, whatever floats your boat. As they say, "different strokes for different folks."

Thanks. A guy on the Evo x forum said something similar when I traded my evo for the m235i. He said he wouldn't have done it unless it was a M2. The M235i was a real enjoyable car and ther are some timgs i will miss a oir it.

There are so many great cars out there - if you have the means, why not try a few? I traded my M235i for a GTI Sport and am perfectly happy with it. I miss the M235i's engine, but not the rest of it THAT much. The Golf is infinitely more practical, though oddly enough I ended up with a Saab Wagon in my care here in FL so now I don't need so much practicality! Doh! I'll swap it for something else in a couple years.

Enjoy that hotrod Ford!

I was set on getting the rs. There was no way I could test drive it so I basically made my decision from watching videos and reading reviews and kind of imagining how it would feel on the road. I love how it looks too, special but not too 'in your face'. The only thing I didn't like about it was that because of the size of the engine, the turning radius was compromised. I was a week away from getting one and then I started to read reviews of engine issues. The rs was going to be a weekend toy/emergency work vehicle (I work from home) so I expected to put on less than 1000 miles per year and so this got me worried that I might not catch any issues until after the warranty had expired.

Congrats on the car. Hope you have good luck with yours.

Congrats OP. I like the RS too. Just not a fan of the interior. I think like a lot of other forum members I just love cars - especially the fast ones. Good luck with your new RS.

Hilarious, you have done exactly the same thing as me, and I am about to buy a FoRS.

Thanks for the replies. I initially wasn't looking at the RS. I liked it and watched videos about it, but they were once scarce like the M2. I noticed they were available now and at a discount. I guess the demand died down. I heard about some of the engine issues in the 2016 models, but they were rare.

Once I test drove one I realized this was the type of car I wanted, and I'm liking it more and more. My M235i was smoother and more refined, and the RS is more drama and excitement. I guess that's what I like, lol.

I actually like the interior. It not as nice as the BMW but I like it. I feel like I don't have to do much to the car as far as mods. If I had got a M2 I probably would have felt the same way.

I like the interior of the Civic type-r, I just wish they toned down the exterior. I saw a regular civic today with that new body style, and it looked very nice the way it was.

I thought about a Golf-r a while back. I've been a long-time fan of the GTI but never got one. I think the reviews kind of biased me against it, when comparing it to other cars. I know I'd like it if I had bought it however.

I need to sell some stuff form my M235i now. I never fully appreciated my Dinan or M-performance until I put the stock exhaust back on.

Good luck with the focus. I couldn't deal with the ride quality. But the rest of it is is nice and super fun. And you were good to wait. Like you said they are plentiful and selling below sticker

Good choice, was contemplating one of those before my 2er. Make sure you buy a RDU cooler if you track it.

Ditto on the DD ride quality, my cousin has one and it's STIFF!, but that can be fixed with proper coil overs, so not a game changer at all. They're great cars, but a bit tacky outside/in, imo.. The Golf R would be THE hatch to have as a 12 month vehicle (for me), and if luxury/ride quality or of any concern it should be considered if looking for a hot hatch. Otherwise the RS is a cool little hot hatch!

Have fun, drift safely!

One thing that people/dealers forget to do is take out the transportation blocks they put in the front springs. I took mine out after driving the car a few days, and it made a big difference. Makes me wonder how many people are forgetting that.

Going from a BMW to a Ford isn't all that uncommon, my son is selling his 2008 135i cabrio and just put a deposit down on a 2018 Ford Shelby GT350..
