Who's got the highest mileage?

Saw this post on the F80 forums and thought it'd be interesting to see the same here as I'm beginning to put lots of miles on the car.

I'll start; 2016 M2 just hit 51k kms and so far nothing wrong except drivetrain malfunction once.

Excited to see who's got the highest score

Can you be more specific about your drivetrain malfunction?

22k kms here, 2018 M2.

22k kms here, 2018 M2.
No idea what happened. Was out on a drive in the middle of nowhere, was doing about 120 and downshifted from 7th to 5th manually and rolled onto the throttle then it sounded like a big boom. CEL came on, drivetrain malfunction warning, huge misfire(s). Pulled over and turned the car off then waited a few mins and fired it back up. No issues then and no issues since(about 8k kms so far).

I'll be doing spark plugs this weekend and will take a look at the ones in the car currently and see how they look.

I suspect a bad batch of fuel, or just G forces causing possible fuel starvation, but I have no idea what was the exact cause.

Perhaps you should report back to the dealer to have it on record before the warranty expires.

This absolutely needs to be brought to the dealer's attention. Not sure what mods, if any, you are running, but if you don't have anything that would invalidate the drivetrain warranty then you may want to have that data point as evidence if you need to resort to CAMVAP.

You could have done some damage to the motor that won't be apparent until post-warranty, and having the dealer records reflect that this occurred during the warranty period could be very important.

Unfortunately I've been out of warranty for nearly a year now. This same thing has happened to other M2 owners locally here, most times due to fuel starvation or spark plug related issues.

I guess I'll roll the dice and see how things go.. it happened conveniently after warranty just expired

When/what mileage were your plugs last replaced? Since you are in Canada it should have been your 3rd year of ownership.

Also is your car modded?

Bone stock engine. Only coilovers and exhaust. Probably never were replaced I never saw them in any documentation my dealer ever did for my warranty servicing

Sadly don't get to drive mine much, so only 14K miles on my 2018. Only issue so far was right rear tail light malfunction (replaced under warranty).

Depending on how much fuel you had in your tank could have been a bit of water. Your doing the plugs, not much else to do prevent wise...

I believe I was around 3/4 of a tank. The car runs fine currently .. I'm not too worried as I will most likely get into a g20 at the end of this summer or next summer

Check the battery connections in the trunk. My negative terminal connector was cracked, so it wouldn't stay tight, which caused a short and led to the very same code. First dealer had no clue, second dealer diagnosed it immediately.

I sold my 2018 M2 6-spd end of last summer that I had purchased to use as a rental car on Turo, which has about low 50k miles now and lives with a friend. Never a mechanical issue even with all the hard miles on it, did replace the clutch/flywheel at 45k miles but that was after 200+ rentals and some crappy manual drivers.

My buddy has a 2017 M4C DCT and 2018 M2 DCT on Turo both with nearly 60k hard miles and a 2019 M2C with about 30kish miles and also no mechanical issues. We wish our Shelby GT350's could say the same Needless to say modern M cars seem pretty stout.

Here was my maintenance log on the 2018 M2 for anyone curious:

9/5/18 1,429 Oil Change- BMW 0w30
Diff Fluid Change- BMW 75w140

1/24/19 9,337 Oil Change- BMW 0w30 (CBS #1)

3/7/19 11,780 Tires- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+

6/19/19 19,466 Oil Change- BMW 0w30 (CBS #2)
E-brake Adjusted
Cabin Air Filter Replaced

8/20/19 23,884 Rear Tires- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+
RR Genuine BMW Wheel

10/25/19 27,605 Oil Change- BMW 0w30 (CBS #3)
Spark Plugs- Genuine BMW
Engine Air Filter Replaced
Key Battery Replaced
RR Tail Lamp Replaced (Warrantied)
Exhaust Actuator Clip Replaced

11/1/19 27,787 Four Wheel Alignment

1/8/20 31,858 Front Brake Pads & Sensor- Genuine BMW
