quickie on cooling system

Just a quick ask

1> Can I just do a top up of the exp. tank, if its a little low (no errors)
2> IF doing a drain and fill must I use a vaccuum system
2a> if yes, there is the high and the low, which would I use ?

1. Yes, you can top off the coolant levels (1 for the engine, 1 for the intake manifold intercooler).
2. The system has to be filled by using a vacuum filling system.
3. There a procedure, listed in the BMW TIS, that outlines how to bleed the system. So, no, you can not bleed it the traditional method.

You can still use the old method (look it up, there's a lot of steps) but it isn't as effective. BMW recommends the vacuum method because it removes more air from the system and also their liability for error.

txs all,

so what I've looked into further from also your replies,

1> yes
2> there is a high and low and both must be vacuum filled
a> but it looks like the drain point according to NewTIS is the same point for both

There appears to be a fill section in TIS for high and low
and also there seem to be 2 separate bleed sections again for high and low

Would iot be simply easier to get BMW to do a refill at that point if I wanted a system change done

Have you guys done it your yourselves

awesome
