I have to say goodbye to my M235i/F22 brethren today

Because I traded my M235i in on a 2017 M2 with 6 speed manual and executive package!

One last goodbye to my trusty steed for the past 2 years sitting next to my new baby.

I drove my M2 5 miles from my dealership to drop it off with Phil @ DetailersDomain for some Prestige Clearguard Nano paint protection film for the front half of the car and the rocker panels. Also going to put a sealant on the rest of it and have him do the M Performance carbon spoiler for me so I don't scratch my trunk up again taking the stock one off (I was able to polish it out just fine, but still don't want to do any damage to it at all).

During that 5 mile drive I had a guy on a bicycle come up to me at a light I was stopped at to tell me he loved the car and asked me what I thought and I told him it was just amazing.

Here it is sitting next to Phil's heavily modded M2 waiting for it to be worked on.

It's going to be torture for the next few days knowing that I own my M2 but can't drive it or stare at it until next week when he's done with it. What a horrible problem to have I know lol.

Anyways I'll be parting out some of the mods I had on my M235i and I'll make a thread for that later.

I wasn't sold on the auto blipping downshift thing with the manual transmission, but after driving it just that short distance today it impressed me so much, it really does give you perfect downshifts ever time. Now I just got to unlearn my instinct to blip the throttle/heel-toe. For right now I have to actively think about not blipping the throttle, but I'm sure once I get more than 5 miles on it it will become more natural to me.

The exhaust on the car sounds AMAZING compared to my M235i with the M Performance exhaust, I don't think at this point that I'd replace it with a different one that it sounds so good.

The steering feel really is quite a bit nicer than the M235i, its immediately apparent to me how much more solid bushings and more rigid suspension components there are on the car, it just has that super planted feels like a tank feel that really well done cars have.

So if there are any other 2 series owners out there considering upgrading and you can afford it, just do it, the car is great and I havent even been over 4,500 rpm yet.

I drove a 340 2.5hrs until I realized that the car was auto-rev matching and that I wasn't doing it even though I was blipping the throttle too.. lol. You can still do it and pretend you're perfectly matching your revs & feel good about yourself.

Oh and dibs on front splitter.. and maybe MP exhaust..

Front splitter stayed on the car, I wasn't going to remove it due to the adhesive.

MP E could definitely be yours. I've also got the chrome ///M tips to go with it if you would want.

Congrats!

If you blip the throttle before a downshift, does it correct the rev match for you or does it then become jerky?

I don't know, the whole 5 mile trip from the dealership, to my house and then right to DetailersDomain I just didn't touch the throttle pedal whenever I downshifted. I wanted to test just how good the auto blipping system is and I have to say it worked perfectly even going from 6th down to 2nd at about 40 mph.

Excellent choice! I originally wanted the M2. I'm looking forward to finally getting my M240 in the next couple weeks. Only reason I went with the 240 is because the M2 in a US model is not available for me here in Germany. And the wait time on the M2 in German spec is about 18 months. Figured I'd ride around in the M240 for a couple years at least and leave the option open for upgrading to an M2 when they're more readily available, if I end up wanting to go that route after living with the 240, that is. We'll see. I'm sure I'll be plenty happy in the interim with my 240 decked out in MP parts.

Went to the shop yesterday morning to check if any progress had been made and popped the hood for the first time to get a shot of the engine bay. Its nearly identical to the M235i, but I noticed a few different things. The most obvious are the extra bracing from the convertible around the airbox and the same spot on the passenger side of the car. Also I noticed that even though I have a manual transmission, it has the vacuum line or whatever it is hooked up to the intake that the manual M235i were missing.
