Charge Pipe popping off
So everything was fine until I moved over to the ECU tune.
Now it think the increase in torque and boost has been popping my charge pipe off multiple times a day. I was at the track, and would only get about 3-4 laps in before *POP* and having to go back to pits to put it back on. Now just in daily driving, it popped while in traffic. I think its a mixture of added boost and temperature. The plastic pipe almost feels rubbery and is very bendable after it pops off. Has anyone ever had this issue? Did you replace the CP with an ER brand and solve the problem? I already ordered my ER charge pipe and really hope it solves this issue.

TOO MUCH BOOST BRO!!
lol JK. Cant say ive heard or seen this happening in the past. It is a fairly solid piece of pipe to just be popping off. My only guess would possibly be the Snap-ring could be bent/warped and not fully seating in it's grove, or a crack on the backside of the pipe where u cant really see causing it to expand under pressure and pushing the snap-ring off its groove. Kinda curious tho, Keep us posted. inspect and even take pictures of that charge pipe when u replace it. |

This happened to me once, but I had put that snap ring on the wrong way LOL. I'd check to see if the ring is damaged, although in general with added boost and upgraded cp is definitely a must. I'm pretty sure that you reuse those rings with the ER too.

just in case this happens to anyone on the road and you need a quick fix.
a 4" exhuast clamp will hold it on and get you to where ever you need to go. Ive had it on for a few days and its been holding 19+lbs boost until the ER gets here and installed.

Buy one off a member if you to keep it stock, or get a ER metal one.
Its about the same price as the OEM plastic one.

Mine popped off and spilt in the process. Occurred while running the Dinan stg 1 setup. My understanding though is that this commonly happens in stock form as well. Ultimately it was fixed by the dealer. Dinan did have to get involved to some degree and there customer service is fantastic.

I just received my ER charge pipe and FMIC pipe kit.
Not leaving anything stock plastic with the amount of boost i'm putting through it. Remember to resue the o rings and c clip or buy new ones. C-clip is on the ER website o ring can be bought at the dealer or online... search for part number 13717568031

Seems like you solved your problem but yes you are correct. The stock charge pipe for our cars were even known to fail under stock boost pressures. A large majority of people replace them even with no intentions of doing other modifications to the car.

My stock CP split the other week (JB4 / sports cat / E30 blend). Fitted the ER charge pipe today and everything seems to be of good quality. A lot tougher than the stock plastic unit, that's for sure!
