SCANS - M235i VS A45 AMG, AUdi S3 and Porsche Cayman.

BIMMERPOST

Enjoy the read!

Autocar declared the Cayman the winner over the M235i, the Audi comes in 3rd and the A45 last. They said Porsche drives better than the M235i and is costs only a little more...

To verify that, I went to the configurators for both Porsche and BMW and configured the cars at approx the same specs (mid grade) and the Porsche came up at $66,150 (!) , $15,300 above the BMW at $50,850!!

Yup. Every time I price one out, it ends up at 70K+ USD.

This was a good read - I thought they were pretty fair to the M235 - hopefully the areas in which it "lacks" will be resolved in the M2.

The constant is all of these 4-pot AMGs are the fastest, but they finish last in every comparison test I've seen.

Yes it's very interesting that it wins in speed, and time but loses in the overall test. Sad for AMG.

All I can say is with only a JB4 piggyback it wont be fastest anymore + there's only so much more you can push out of that 4 cylinder.

Kinda stupid to include the 2 seater Cayman against the 4 seater coupes and sedans..
You'd think that the Cayman would be competition for the Audi TTS or the SLK 55 AMG or Z4 35is?

It would be nice to see a dyno, but I am very impressed with how much power they were able to get out of that turbo-4 in the AMG

+1 if they included the cayman, they should have included the C7 as well!

Well my tune only CLA45 should be able to run an 11.9 1/4 mile so not bad for a tiny 4 cylinder. The turbo is the weak point though. 500 HP would be possible with an upgraded turbo.

They have to be able to design it with no turbolag though, the everyday person would freakout when they felt it

I wonder what this review would look like if the M235i sported the optional LSD... Closer to the Cayman?

Ok I am officially impressed. Didn't think it could push that much out of the 4 Cyl.

+1, not a fair comparison given that the Cayman is much more expensive. Also, the Cayman (base as opposed to S model) is pokey in acceleration compared to the other 3 entrants. I guess if u come close in ranking to a Porsche then that's a pretty darn good standing for the M235i. No way I'm shelling out $70K-$80K for a Cayman or Cayman S - I don't care if it drives itself, flies and can talk. An interesting read nonetheless OP...

What a joke. I agree.

2 door sports car vs 2 + 2 sports coupe vs two four door sedans.

Curb weights vary from 1310 KG to 1555 KG - yowza ....a whopping 540 lb difference !

they arent even close on price.... Perhaps they got the idea for this article from Motor Trend..
