Should I trade in 228i for M235i? 23k Private Party

So I've been wanting to get more power and a better exhaust note out of my 228i. Between spending 2k+ to get a catless downpipe, BM3 tune, charge pipe, intercooler etc, I figured I'd look into just trading in my 228i.

So I found what I think is a really good deal, it's a 2014 M235i with 30k miles, and a CPO warranty thru 2020 or 100k miles. Also includes a Dinan chip (I'm guessing they mean the basic sport + tuner or whatever) But they're only asking 23k.

What's holding me back is the car is literally BASE with no packages. I've got the technology package now and Harmon kardon audio. I feel like I'll miss that a lot. It's also the Melbourne Red and that's my least favorite color but I would probably get it wrapped. So there's another 3k.

Luckily I haven't poured too much money into my current car just an Injen intake and I wrapped my interior in carbon vinyl I can do that again. I'm confident that my car can sell for around 21-24k (Has everything except premium package, 38k miles). So I feel like it's a pretty good deal. I would get a faster car with a better exhaust and the ceiling is higher for mods, also the extended warranty. What do you guys think is this a no brainer?

your 228 is great looking, and a known quantity.

Are you racing other are or just hitting back roads by yourself ?

I’d keep the 228 and do the modifications

Just racing against friends and stuff. I'm not tracking it. I just love the exhaust note of the V6 so much better. But I always love my Alpine White and my Harmon Kardon and Tech package lol.

Mainly just feel like if it's the same cost to go to the V6 it makes more sense since I'll get more power and the exhaust I want. I don't want to put all the money into my 228i and not be satisfied, also it won't retain that value when I go to sell it.

If you're downgrading on other options you love to get in a car with more power but without several options you like (including color), you'll definitely be regretting it down the road.

I think the better option is to wait and see if a better fitting M235i pops up in your price point with the options you want. Otherwise, if you'd prefer not to wait then start to mod your 228 and see how you feel. You can start fairly inexpensive/simple with a midpipe or downpipe, either (or both) of which should add a lot more note to your exhaust. I will say though I am not as familiar with the 228s so I haven't seen those exhaust mod videos.

By the way it's a straight 6 not a V6.

Drive the current car two more years and check out the next-generation 240i, equipped as you want it, in 2020.

Oh yeah my bad it's the inline 6 cyl. Yeah it would be expensive too wrap it and I do love my current car so much. Damn I wish it wasn't red haha I would've been able to get over the tech package and just buy those Eton or bavsound speakers.

Only thing is I don't feel like I can get a good exhaust note out of my 4 banger. But I suppose this deal isn't as good as I was originally thinking considering I'd definitely want to pay to have it wrapped.

Dang that is a really good deal! If your chasing for more hp on your car anyways I'd say just make the jump to the M235i, it'll take a lot to break +300hp on the 228i not to mention it will drastically effect the reliability of the engine. I would totally do it man, but it honestly seems too good to be true, M235is in my area are going for around $28k-$32k non-CPO and with higher mileage. As for the technology package and Harman Kardon audio package I believe Bimmer-Tech does OEM retrofits so you can always consider that as an option if you desperately need those packages.

I mean speaking of retaining value as you mentioned, my 14' 228 has 77k miles and still books at $14.5k as a trade and around $19k private party. That's coming from a good friend who does finance at a major dealership in my city. I was going to trade it for a big diesel 4x4 pickup.

Do what you can reasonably afford and what makes you happy.

$23k for CPO M235i, that sounds rediculously cheap. Is that what they go for now days?

I'll be selling mine soon, although it's not CPO, fully loaded with M-LSD and 6-speed

Dealer CPOs are more like 32k for the same mileage so yeah it seems like a good deal!

i think it was worth the upgrade, but i found a 235 with all of the same options as my 228 so i didnt have to sacrifice anything.

the sound and feel of the 6 cylinder is far superior to the 4 cylinder. i wouldnt want to go back to the 4.

31k? Damn man that's a good offer. I bought mine May last year with 14k miles for $28.5.

Also if I end up getting the M235i I realized I can just swap my big screen on and code it for the bigger screen. The only thing I'd be missing is the big touch idrive controller and I don't really care about missing that.

But keep in mind that "At this time the only engine planned for G42 2er Coupe is B48" (https://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=901686)

They are cancelling f23 because of g29..will they also cancel m240i because of supra?
