The USB version that are in the 2017 are the 2.1. I believe and according to what I read the USB does a good job in charging the phone quickly. Regardless the cradle will not accommodate a bigger phone and suspect the iPhone 8 will have a large version. I think the more efficient wireless charging can be found in the 6 series (pouch) style. I suspect that version will accommodate the bigger phones.

Yep. That's the gist.

Also, to wit: A cradle that holds the phone fast is nice if you're only using functions that are controllable via iDrive or CarPlay. If you're using any other functions -- Waze would be a great example -- a cradle is a pain in the arse because you can't use the phone without disconnecting it completely from the car. This one reason alone makes me sour on cradles in general.

No, good points. I think it would a pain for her and that would wear thin after a day or two. The guys on the X5 forum are ripping them out. Lol.
