M235i manual
M235i auto
M235xi auto
M235xi manual
228i track auto
228xi auto
And the least desirable f22 will of course be a standard 228i auto.

There will be lots of m235is and few 228i track manuals, which are just as fast with a $500 tune but weigh less, and are therefor more fun around corners. The m235xi auto is the fastest f22 around a track until M2 comes - but it's a bit boring.
I don't get the add a $500 tune to a car and it will be just as fast as a faster one. Add that $500 tune to the faster car and then you are back in the same situation.

This is true and for the street, the M235 is the clear choice. For the track though, it's a toss up. More power but 4% front heavy or perfect 50/50, less 200lbs, but with a max output of around 320hp where the M235 can easily go above 400.

In the end, it all comes down to what is more fun. I think they're a toss up with a slight preference towards the 228 track manual. You're not going to see manuals hold a high resale value at like carmax or as a trade-in. But if you list one for sale on the forums, it'll sell quick at or above book value.

I sold both my Z4M Coupe and e92 M3 on bimmerpost and they both sold within one week of listing them for asking price which was above book value. This is definitely the place to buy and sell enthusiast-grade cars.

Interesting, on my Porsche 991, the manual gained me 1 residual point.

I ordered my m235i with manual sunroof delete. I think the resale will be higher if you sell private party and are not in a rush. Fewer people want the manual, which makes it rare, which in turn for people who want the manual makes it worth more.

If your going to trade it in, probably a wash.

I think there is always going to be a certain group of people who will still want the manual, knowing that it is slightly slower anyway. It just provides a more engaging experience on the street. You can't come close to driving these cars on the road near their limit, so you might as well enjoy what you can more. That is at least the thinking I had.

Yup, I track all my cars, and drive quite a few. On the 991, I have driven on the track every model and I think the manual is the most fun. I let other people drive mine who have PDK and 2 of them have since traded in for manual. Time difference is about 1 second a lap on a 2 mile course, 78 seconds vs 79. Slightly more than a percent deficit for a manual.

Yes auto is faster, For fun get whatever you like more. For me it's manual. For others it's auto. There will be a resale market for both.
