2 Series Sales Slide Continues
It looks like BMW sales woes continue, down 11% May to May and 3.6% year to date and the 2 Series was down 26.2% May to May and a massive 37.4% year to date. The 3 Series was sales were also drastically lower while 4 Series showed a slight gain. If it weren't for BMW Truck sales their overall fleet numbers would be even worse.
http://www.bimmerfile.com/2017/06/02...onth-us-sales/ Not to be a doom and gloom person, but the market sure doesn't favor those of us who love BMW for their sporty, "fun to drive" convertibles, coupes and sedans. It makes one wonder how long they can continue to cost justify all the various models and permutations. I love my M235i convertible and if I needed to replace it, I'd go for a similar car if available. I guess, for those of us who selected a 2 Series over a Mustang or Camaro because they were less common, we'll continue to see fewer and fewer 2er's on the street.

GM sales have also been down a lot in May. I work in the auto industry and historically it's a slow period before late summary because everyone is waiting for new models and the associated markdowns on current stock.

Hard to believe that sales of the outgoing model would decline just before the introduction of the LCI replacement..

The average car buyer most likely doesn't even know their is such a thing or if they did would have trouble telling the difference between the "new" and the "old" version. I'll bet the house the LCI replacement doesn't reverse the trend. The 3 Series LCI is out and their numbers were way down too. Enthusiasts like us who spend time on these forums make up a small portion of automobile buyers.

TBH I'm sure they'd do a lot better simplying their lineup a la Apple. Have one car be best in class and focus all the development on that.
1) simple sporty basics with all that a good driver could want (2 series) 2) Do it all sporty sedan that can support a family (3 series) 3) luxe-barge (smoosh 5 and 7 series together) 4) Little SUV 5) Big SUV. That's it, IMHO |

I bought a 230xi vert that had a sticker of almost $53K US. I like the car, but I do feel a bit ripped off because of the lack of a few options and all the options I had to pay for that are standard on other brands that costs thousands less.

Speaking of LSD.. From what I've seen here, it looks like it's 2 grand plus to have LSD added.. That seems crazy to me when I've purchased other new vehicles and LSD was only a few hundred as a factory option.

There was just an article in the NYT today about how car sales are down this year across the board.

2 series sales would be much higher if you could buy an M2 or dealers had inventory of other two series models. My local dealer is lucky if he has one or two 2 series available and has never has an M2 available.

Well one other factor is crappy lease rates at the moment. For a couple of years, the lease rates were really good from what I recall. When I got my car originally, I think residual was 63% or something, when my lease was up, in order to get into an M240i it would have been a lot more expensive. First off the MSRP was 1000 more than my car, and secondly, the residual was like 55 or 57%. So in effect I would be paying a couple hundred more per month for the same car.
I ended up just buying out my lease, but you figure with worse off lease rates, and higher prices, probably not a lot of incentive at the moment.

I just hope this means that they won't invest a ton of money in new tooling to fugly up the current cars, leaving them the way they are for as long as possible.
And $53k for a 230? was there anything you didn't add to the options list or is that FULLY loaded? |

Price was the biggest factor in why I passed on the M235i. I really liked the car, but couldn't get over the price. Ended up with the Golf R, but still keep my eye out to see if I can find a nice used M235i/M240i.
I do agree that stock was an issue even when I was shopping. The local dealers only had one car a piece and neither in the color I wanted. |

I have to agree with Dan on this one. My dealer has not even had one m240i in months
How are you going to sell somthing you can't even test drive? They do have ten 230i's in stock but I don't think even one has the M-sport package |

Less is not always more...
While you might have great ideas... You'd simply be out of business in no time. If you don't like it, jump ship while you can, meanwhile back to reality BMW has a business to run, and clearly they are in it to win.
