I bet the poll would be close to a 100% on manual side if you disregard traffic, wives, injuries, and availability

My left knee is bone on bone. As long is I have a left leg, I will drive a manual. The pain is manageable as I am sitting when I drive.

come on lol....unless you have 0 skill with a standard, the difference is negligible at best in terms of performance and fuel economy. I find most people use this as scape goat reason for being shit ass drivers with a stick. Not saying you in particular but just in general.

Bullshit. I probably have more time rowing manual gears than you have on this planet.

I didn't mean anyone in particular just the reasoning itself. I totally understand reasons like wife can't drive it or physical problems but come on, the differences in times are just nonsense to me at least. No disrespect, were all friends

Auto. I think the only way I get back into a manual is if BMW were to announce a detuned s55 in the 2018 M2 with a minimal price increase.

Negligible at best? I can guarantee stock for stock the auto is at least half a second quicker in the 1/4 mile, and that is with perfect shifts out of the manual driver.

Not that it matters in the least because I have no doubt the manual is more fun to throw around, but there is no doubt stock for stock which car is faster.

I suppose that begs the next question

It assumes a person is actually going to keep the car for an extended period

But which transmission is more economical over the long run including service and the eventual need to rebuild/service it?

Anyone want to venture cost to replace that AT vs rebuild the MT?

IDK

Maybe .3 of a second and 2 mph at best assuming the 6MT driver is decent. The auto is quicker, but not .5 seconds quicker.

New vs new, the manual is around $3300 cheaper to replace than the 8AT. That includes replacing the 6MT transmission, clutch, and dual mass flywheel.

I haven't had the opportunity to test the manual at the track, but there is no way short of possibly being a pro driver that you are only .3 behind when almost every publication I have read was at least .5 behind in the manual.

I dont think that there's much doubt remaining that the modern slushbox is a hair faster than the MT and that the dual clutch transmissions avail on higher end vehicles are even faster
I'm honestly impressed by the slushbox in the M240....it did a wonderful job of anticipating proper gear selection

But I still prefer a MT personally and wish the xdrive was avail with one

The auto in the M235i is one heck of a box. It is not your grandma's auto.

No one in hell could you shift as fast as the auto can in sport mode, the thing is ridiculous. That said, I do still love driving a manual.

Moot point. I've owned 11 automobiles in my life and I keep most of my cars 10 years or more. I have yet to replace a transmission, automatic or manual. Serviced? Yes... just fluids and filters (auto). Big deal.

So who give a flying leap? How many people keep their cars long enough to have a transmission failure.

Your argument is very weak.
