Agreed! NA and turbo, comfortable and nimble.

It's going to be a bit of a stretch, but it'll be worth it. Just got to keep the e36 really clean.

So has these photoshops convinced you to go M2 over C7, or is that still in the running?

I think if BMW M Division is going to make any car, they are going to make it as badass as is practical for the class of car. Dropping a v8 into a 2 series is impractical as it messes with the F/R weight balance. They wouldn't do that. Just like we won't see a 4 door Z4M anytime soon. Not what that class of car is about.
You raise some interesting points but personally I do think that BMW gives more thought to "pecking-order" than just what is possible within the confines of the platform. Their formula seems pretty straightforward: each higher series costs considerably more and for the additional cost their customers get more size, more electronics, and more engine. Their buyers would feel short-changed if they didn't.

Think about it, despite knowing for years that the M3 was the preferred car over the M5 for their most "hardcore" customers, BMW has never given it more power than its big brother. You could argue that a big engine would have unbalanced the car, but I guess we will find out soon enough how BMW thinks about this now that all of the M-cars have become FI. Turbo's allow a lot of flexibility to tweak power output without adding a ton of weight, you just need a bigger snail and stronger block/internals. So if BMW really wanted to maximize the M2's overall performance they could easily match the M3's output without excessive weight or unbalancing the car. Porsche is in a somewhat similar situation with the Cayman vs the 911. The Cayman is inherently the better platform than the 911 and could be given at least equal engine output - but it won't happen for Cayman and it won't happen for the M2.

Now that being said, it doesn't mean that it's impossible for the M2 to outperform the M3, it just won't do it on the dyno or in the quarter mile (same goes for Cayman). I think that enthusiasts have for years taken the M3 over the M5 believing it to be the best all-around performance package due to its lower weight and smaller dimensions in combination with still excellent power output - and IMO the exact same thing will happen now with the M2 taking that mantle away from the M3. But BMW will never give it equal or more outright power simply because they can.

Personally I think the M2 should be promoted as the track/performance car due to its size and should have the most performance goodies and power. The M3 is now a 4 door..... high priced grocery getter....hail the 2 door, make it the monster

Well these are just renders, but the fact that I check bimmerpost maybe 20 times a day, and haven't checked stingrayforums.com in about 3 weeks, says something.

I'm a BMW fan and this M2 render looks so gosh darn gorgeous that I'm struggling to aprehend the situation. Like damn, is it really going to look that good?

The C7 is off the list. Matter of fact (get ready for a surprise!) The M2 is the only car on the list right now. It is the most expensive car I will consider but it will definitely be my choice, assuming it looks like this (which from the spy photos seems to be the case).

As I've mentioned before, I am more a fan of BMW's professional and aggressive look, and the M2 might be the best looking car in BMW's lineup once it comes out. That depends on personal preference, but jesus, the proportions on the car are perfect.

Also... it's kind of interesting how Scott would always complain when new renders came out that they looked nothing like the prototypes. It happened like 3 or 4 times.

Then, all of a sudden, Bimmerpost reveals a FANTASTIC render. Seems to me like BMW caught notice of the inaccurate renders, and went to Bimmerpost with a little *wink wink nudge nudge* to put out an accurate render, or some administrator himself felt compelled to generate an accurate M2 render. Perhaps it was rendered under collaboration with BMW. Really is a possibility if you look at Scotts comments towards the awful renderings released prior to this one.

BMW definitely peeks in the forum more often than the general forum members think and thats a good thing! After seeing these renders I've kind of forgotten about my M4 order... just for a minute. Loving BMW right now

I've kind of forgotten about the F80 myself haha. I'm hoping that these renders are a precursor to more spy shots (maybe in other colors we haven't seen before?).

If I were to order a brand new car, which I really want to do at least once in my life, I honestly can't think of any other car right now than the M2 ordered exactly to my taste. That's a car I'll cherish for a long long time.

Thanks Jason and team, better effort than most we have seen!

IMO M2 v M3/4 discussion reminds me of Cayman v Carrera journey, how Boxter began life as an affordable Porsche far from the Carrera but as it has evolved, there are now distinct characteristics in the Cayman to the extent that some people would choose it over the Carrera, even the older and/or richer owners. Journey to M2 and beyond is going to be exciting but the M3/4 won't be left behind IMO.

So, regarding the headlights, is it possible that the LED option has the L shaped day time running lights? Or is it predicted that you have to opt for the more expensive Laserlights like the ones on the 7 series prototype to get the L shaped ones?

Because the render shows L shaped DRLs on what seems to be LED headlights. Were these headlights taken from a picture of a "real" car (maybe a concept car?)

I think they'll just be the "regular" LED's, just like the ones on the F80 and F10s. I think they'll save that new design for the 7 series. That's fine with me though.

Yeah, definitely not even remotely close to a deal breaker, but the L shaped lights go realllllly well with the two series headlights. The sharp, kinked point in the front, and they're long thin shape would go perfect with them.

I think the new LED lights will have the L shaped look. Also the rear lights will be different. The 1 M Coupe also had not the LCI lights in front and rear when it was tested the first times on the nordschleife.

I don't think we'll see these headlights into normal production as they appeared on the 4 series concept, but they didn't go further with them.
