Exhaust tip fell off

When I went out to the garage this week I noticed that one of my exhaust tips was missing. I haven't hit anything nor have I ever modded my exhaust system. Should I bring this up with my dealership for a warranty coverage?
If it's not covered, I'll be disappointed since I didn't do anything but I'm a new BMWCCA member. Does anyone have any leads on where I can get a replacement?

I agree. The dealer should replace it for free.

If the dealer won't replace I have a set in my garage. I can FedEx them to you for Tuesday delivery for $100 or make a reasonable offer. Here's a picture of them.

I would be leaning toward this being theft, it is very unlikely it just fell off. Someone needing a tip swiped yours.

I agree, I just replaced the chrome tips on my 228i with black chrome and I had to use a block and rubber mallet to get them off. If you needed chrome I would give them to you.

Having replaced mine with 3.5" tips, I'm 99.99% certain that the OEM tips don't "fall off".
They take quite a bit of force to come off.

Dust for fingerprints and alert the authorities to catch the perpetrator. I agree that they are very secure and having had many Bimmers before, never had one fall off. Try the dealer for sure. It should be not a problem to have them replace it for you.

I'll let you know if the dealer won't cover it and I'll buy them from you. They're $45 each plus shipping at one of the online oem parts stores.

It is possible I suppose that someone stole it. Odd, but possible.

Thank you for the offer. I'm going to look into getting it covered under warranty. If I decide to go chrome, I'll pay you.

I have also never had this happen but this is only my 3rd BMW. Unfortunately I don't know when/where it happened other than last Wednesday to Thursday sometime. Fingers crossed that the dealership will help me out.

Likewise: fingers crossed for ya ... but in the last pic, you can see where the internal metal clip on the missing tip scored the steel of the interior pipe when it was removed. I can't remember on the 235, but doesn't one pipe have a 'flap' on it that only opens at certain times, a la the 228? If so, and that's the 'flapped' side, it will rarely get hot when the car's driven normally -- and because of the lack of heat cycles, that side is easier to remove.

Smells very much like theft.

They were probably stolen. Nothing surprises me anymore, some low life's routinely steal flowers and the vase they are in from my in-laws grave site. I replaced my chrome tips with black. I would give them to you if you wanted chrome.

Glad the dealer took care of you. Even if bmw USA won't cover a good dealership should take care of that for their reputation and also good word of mouth.
