Engine skid plate question
Hey guys, super quick question that I really haven’t been able to find a ton of info for. I’ve got a 2018 M240i that I bought used, and I’ve noticed that it’s missing what I assume is some kind of clip that holds the flap in the skid plate that covers access to the oil drain plug. I’ve tried finding where I can get this, but I’ve honestly had trouble finding even an entire OEM skid plate in general. Anybody know what clip I would need for it and where I could get it? Appreciate it

Hm my 2017 M240 doesnt have a door. There is a small 4inch by 4 inch area I can get to the oil drain. I assumed the plate was designed like that. I bought the car with 15k miles now you're gona make it lift it and see if I'm missing a door.

The little flap over the oil drain hole is a pain. Mine is bent, and even with the clip it often just pops loose and hangs down. I suspect that it got bent when someone just pulled it down to do an oil change and didn't spin the clip to the release point. The whole bottom tray is fiberboard of some sort, and not very sturdy.
The flap is pain to deal with while doing the oil change also. It's always in the way, and if you don't hold it, or put something like a form-a-funnel in, the oil dribbles all over it. TrboMike I suspect someone just cut the flap off on your car so they wouldn't have to deal with it. I am very close to doing the same with mine. |
