You know what's really interesting is, the NYK Line boats have a schedule posted every week in pdf.

Last week for Antares Leader (a boat that is 2 weeks ahead of schedule to the Equuleus Leader) had a schedule as follows:

11th San Diego
12th Long Beach,
13th Hueneme

and the schedule right now shows a modified schedule showing the following:

11th San Diego,
13th Hueneme,
17th Long Beach

I believe this is due to the slowdown the president's weekend at the port. This schedule further supports my theory that RoRo cargo ports (such as San Diego and Hueneme) are not greatly affected. Long Beach does LoLo (Lift on / Life off) cargo which needs cranes and crane operators (who have to wait on shifts to be assigned by the union).

Also despite all the slowdowns a BMW dealer posted that video of the 228i convertible that came in to his dealership the other day (18th) so I think we'll be okay either way.

I got into Port Hueneme very early this morning (around 4 or 5 am my time).. The Topeka is still at the berth, and my car has not been unloaded yet according to the tracking tools.

Awesome ! Say, which tracking tool will tell you if it has been unloaded ? I didn't know there was such fine grained tracking available.

Also, I assume there were no delays at Hueneme (union strike) ? You weren't affected at all ? Which would be a good sign for the rest of us due at the port soon

The Topeka has been berthed all day (so far), and my shipping tool on the wallenius wilhelmsen tracking page doesn't show my shipment having been taken off the vessel yet. I think it should show that it's unloaded, and then again when it's cleared through customs.

I could be wrong.. but that's what I'm expecting from WW tracking.

My car finished in assembly last week. It's currently waiting to be assigned to a ship. How long is this process? When should I anticipate my car to arrive?

So I can

Hey, I've noticed cars wait at the port, on average, about a week. Mine waited exactly one week (Feb 6 - 13), before actually setting sail, but others have waited longer or shorter times.

As for arrival, again, that's dependent on a myriad of factors, but assuming average times and no delays, you're looking at: 1 week + 3 weeks transit (Galveston) + 1 week from VPC to dealer = roughly 5 weeks from now = ~ fourth week of March.

Good news from Port Hueneme for you West Coasters:
Quote:
Unlike the larger ports, the Port of Hueneme is not anticipating any backlog, Decas said.

“Each port is impacted differently,” Decas said.

For the Port of Hueneme, the issue that arose from the labor dispute was not congestion but a matter of shuffling schedules and the subsequent impact on the port’s customers

Actually, I think this might be bad for us, coz now, Port Hueneme has to take on maybe 5 times its normal workload ?

Good that things are moving, but all the work from LA and LB is now coming to Hueneme and will continue to do so for the next 3 months.

What do y'all think ?

Nah, they know where their bread is buttered, no way they delay one of their biggest, long-term customers for one-off instances with other shippers. I'm sure they will just be working a ton of overtime and extra shifts to accommodate the extra work.

Ok, so.. Port Hueneme folks -- the Topeka got into port around 4:30 am on Saturday, and my car was discharged at 3:35 pm (or that's when it was scanned).

Now, I wait for customs... but at least the port itself didn't take that long. I imagine that customs might not work on the weekends normally, so we'll see.

Fingers crossed!

what do you mean your car was "discharged"? Does that mean it's out of the ship but not @ VDC yet? or...................

Your welcome! I'm glad to know it all worked out. Let's meet for lunch in The Woodlands when we get our cars.

Discharged means it's been removed from the ship. I actually made it through customs today as well.

My full scan history is:
  • LINER RELEASE PORT HUENEME, CA 23-02-2015 13:29:45
  • CUSTOMS RELEASE PORT HUENEME, CA 23-02-2015 00:00:00
  • DISCHARGED PORT HUENEME, CA 20-02-2015 15:35:00
  • LOADED ON VESSEL BREMERHAVEN 24-01-2015 19:24:41
  • RECEIVED AT TERMINAL BREMERHAVEN 23-01-2015 09:45:42
  • BOOKED BREMERHAVEN 20-01-2015 11:40:06

So, 3 days-ish from discharge to cleared through customs.

Now I guess it's just up to the VPC to process my 235, and then it needs to make it 30 minutes to the dealer for pickup.. Fingers crossed this week!
