2016 228i tail light ground issue

I have the somewhat common tail light "melted ground" issue. I did order a replacement plug kit, but I am wondering if I might be able to simply splice the brown ground wire to the chassis. This would be simpler than having to strip and splice all the wires. The question is: will it work and can I attached the new ground to any metal to achieve an adequate ground?

It will likely work fine.

Post back when done. I'm curious if this works out for you.

Having the same issue, I recently changed out the bulb holder and replaced with the new harness.

In hindsight, I think it may have been easier to de-pin the old connector and only pin and add the affected ground wire. Would have been much easier than trying to crimp the other 7 pins.

Sorry for delay. No, this did not work. I suspect the place where i attempted to screw in the alternate ground did not provide a proper ground. I drilled a hole into the metal housing. Not sure what to try next.

I cut the wire outside the housing, spliced in a split a soldered to the locations in this post.

I did that about a year ago and it's been holding up just fine.
