What's this M235i Track Edition nonsense?
Saw this on a couple sites...what am I missing here? Seems like a regular M235i with some M Performance parts? Is it a joke?

The parts do look pretty good though... Last edited by HX_Guy; 07-19-2014 at 01:27 PM.. |

I think it has more to due with Dutch taxes than anything.
Beautiful car, I like the painted front lip. The CF ruins the lip for me. To be fair the same thing costs 70 grand in Canada ( M Performance Edition). Maybe it has an lsd? |

It is just an M235i with some M-performance bits. They left out the most important for track use, though - the LSD (at least I saw no mention in the links). They did put a numbered plaque on the car somewhere, though. Maybe that takes the place of the LSD on the track and adds 10HP?

Also noting from the pictures is moonroof delete. Looks like a good spec for an actual track M235i IMO.

It's a way for the Product Planner to add margin to the program with no investment. Off the shelf parts gathered up into an OE package will raise the take rate vs relying on the Parts Department to gain more volume. When I was a Product Planner, I did this a couple of times to create "special models" and we were quite profitable.

I guess it would make sense for a few people, as they might option the car this way anyway...but this is not BMWNA so no telling what it would cost here if it ever appeared. It would be nice if it was a special package with bespoke parts. My 335is has standard parts that were not available on the 335i - DCT, 18 or 19" 313m wheels, upgraded cooling and air ducts, overboost for 370 tq and the most heavenly sounding exhaust.
Now, if you do euro delivery, you can't order these parts for port install standalone, but as a factory option, you could, which would be nice. |

Dealers usually launch such "editions" to clear existing inventory or attempt to drive sales/ awareness up for the model.
Seems a tad too early to apply such methods for the newly launched M235i though. |

Yup... the 135is was justifiable.

You guys are trying to compare US prices to that of the Netherlands. Let's snap out of it. A manual M235i over there starts at €60,000. That is around $90,000 for the base model. Comparing that to what a US car costs is useless.

I do sorta like the look of just the CF/alcantara pieces on and around the shift knob and e-brake. Wasn't sure if it would look good next to the aluminum, but I think it looks ok. I like the dash pieces as well, but I have the EB dash stripe, like pictured above and want to keep that =)
I'm torn on the wheel though. I don't think I would get the one with the display, but I don't know if I want to lose the wheel heating for just a different wrap. Perhaps after living with the leather for a while I'll decide. |

Exactly. If the M235i costed in the US what it costs in other countries, there would be like 3 people on this forum right now. Countries like Singapore, where the government imposes heavy taxes and fees, cannot be used as an example of comparable vehicle pricing for countries like the US.
