My Track Package 228i 6MT just started production today! Very eager for the middle of August to get here! Unlike the assumption, did not get the MSport package but chose Sportline, as I couldn't get my choice of Valencia Orange on MSport. The remaining differences are minimal, and actually, I would rather have the fog lamps. The steering wheel design is the biggest loss, but the overall color more than makes up for it. The 4 year roadside assistance sounds good, but I thought all cars got that? In any event, I will order a spare kit from bimmerzone.com.

I drove the 228i yesterday for the first time after they announced the track package. I was initially dissappointed by the engine sound at first but as I started to drive it and it warmed up, I really enjoyed hearing the wastegates go and while it's not as smooth as the 6, I actually liked it slight coarseness. It made it fun. My wife has a GTI that is a really great car especially for the money. I always told my wife, I buy a GTI if it was rear wheel drive. Yesterday, I think I found it. It felt like a GTI with rear wheel drive and a little more power. Very impressed! The steering was a little slow and not much feedback but I am wondering how it will be with the track package. I don't like dynamic soft suspensions but with the brakes and faster steering i am really, really interested. I wish I could test drive a 228 manual with track package. I have a feeling it's going to be a sleeper! Congrats on yours!

I'll tell you guys this about the N20 - It's a damn nice little engine!

I've had it pushing around my X3 the last 2.5 years and outside of a module problem in cold weather, this thing has been great.

Yes it sounds coarse and a bit like a diesel, no it doesn't pull like a powerful 6, but it's plenty good for EDD. I would describe as peppy as dressed in X3 guise...Might be downright quick in a much lighter 228 suit

The only thing I've been disappointed in is gas mileage - but then I do have it pushing an x3, in sport mode all the time and I do drive spirited (for an SAV anyways).

It pulls a LOT harder than the NA six that was in my 128

Yes, but you have to admit, the 128 sounds awesome when revved! I'm Still a fan. The 128 was like Bruce Springsteen singing Born in the USA

I drove a 228 and 235 back to back and the variable sport steering on the 235(which is included in the track package) was a noticeable improvement, IMHO.

Top Speed Limiter with Track Package: Does anyone know if the top speed limiter is increased if one gets the Track Package but a base 228i? I am seriously considering the base model since I am okay with not getting the sport seats. But the top speed limiter may be an issue on track days. Of course if it cuts off at 128 then it shouldn't be much of an issue.

Option code 840 comes with the style 384 wheel option in the track package. The 461M wheels are not an option without going msport as well, so the answer is yes.

Well sad news. I could not work out an acceptable price with my local BMW dealer and ended up purchasing a 2011 Boxster instead. I was really excited about the 228i with the Track Package but couldn't get the M Sport with the exterior color I wanted. I almost pulled the trigger on the Sport line but really do not like the wheels at all.

So, I am going to try a dedicated sportscar. The Porsche Club allows the Boxster out for driving schools on the track because of the dedicated roll bar so hope keep my skills up. In three years I will look at the M2, used M3 or a M235i

What color did you want? I want midnight blue with msport and chromeline...but that's not happening!

Wanted Deep Sea Blue with M Sport Pkg. Was willing to compromise for Sportline but did not like the wheels. They said I couldn't order the 461m wheels from M Sport.

curious - I thought tracking your bimmer voided the warranty - just hearsay? would be ironic given it's specifically called a track package.
