New Order: 2 series vs 3/4 series + Comfort Access Qn

Hi guys!

I would like to get some of your opinions on my situation.

1)

I am currently looking to get a new car. I am currently looking at a 2016 2 Series. However, since it's a factory order, I will have to wait till late September to receive it.

The dealer suggested that I could look at getting a 2015 2/3/4 series at a better rate. However, the caveat is that there isn't the colour I want (blue), and the options are fixed/limited. The upside is that I'll be able to get it in under 14 days.

The thing about waiting is that I will be in another province and will have to drive back 1000km to collect the car. I am currently pursuing this deal now since I would like to receive it before winter. What would you do if you were in my situation?

2) Another question for 2 owners, how do you guys find the comfort access + HK Sound system? For me, it's going to be an addtional $2200CAD, and I'm not sure about the value in that. Especially since for 2016 they took out the adaptive headlights and highbeam assist from the 228's executive package.

Any comments/opinions are greatly appreciated!

1. You get to order exactly what you want so you don't have to compromise with something on the lot

You need the extra interior space with a 3/4?

2. Comfort access is very convenient ... One of my must haves along with the heated steering wheel and PSS

Can't speak to hk sound since I didn't need 'premium' audio

The HK system in 2 series is crippled compare to higher BMW series. Keep that in mind.

Can you post exactly how the 2016 packages are like?

This is for the Canadian 228i.

From what I understand, the MSport package is now standard. The other packages are almost the same except the following changes.

1) Exec package.
removed the auto highbeam and adaptive headlights. so the exec package is now only 4 items for $2200

2) Premium package
Now $3950, with mostly the same stuff, just that the auto dimming interior mirror has been pulled from standard into this package

3) MSport Package
Now standard as mentioned above (which means the 228 now can only come with MSport colors, ie, no orange)

I don't know if I really need the interior space. Right now I own a 4 door, so it's 'convenient' to throw my random stuff in the back seat (ie, groceries, jacket, gym stuff, laptop bag) and be able to open the backdoor to retrieve it. I don't know how much I'm going to miss that though.

But in terms of passengers, I'm currently single and don't really have much passengers anyway, usually only the passenger seat is filled.

---

For the comfort access, I know it's incredibly convenient! I would have loved it if they put it in the premium package, and it's weird that it's in the exec package. That's why I'm wondering if the exec package is worth the price tag.
It's $2200 for HK Audio (which is apparently crippled compared to the 3/4 series), Comfort Access, Universal remote and Satalite Radio. What do you think?

The exec package is absolutely not worth it in that case. In fact, it never was.
The only thing valuable was the sound upgrade and that turned out to be crippled.
Comfort access is more like a mimic and bragging right type of thing. I still prefer to physically insert the key into the car to start it.
Heck. Even Aston Martins use key fobs.

the $2000 MSport Package is now standard?! That's a huge saving.

At least in Europe, Comfort Access is only refering to the fact one only have to touch the door handle to open the door. In the 2er there is no place to insert the key.
Also in the 2er HK sucks compared to 3er. I ordered it after listening to a friend of mine's 328i sound system but it certainly does not worth the 800 euros...

That's correct! The comfort access is the part where you can open the door without taking the key out of your pocket.

On the topic of the HK system, you don't feel like it's worth it?
I have sat in a 2-series with the default sound system, and it seemed like the sound was coming from under you since there weren't any tweeters.

Does the sound feel more natural at least?

Technically, the driver's side door handle does have a keyhole. The fob contains a 'hidden' key that could be used to open the door in case of a completely dead battery.

Correct...I think he was referring to inserting the key to start it replying to the poster saying he prefers inserting a key to do so...which is insane. Who would not want to keep a key in their pocket if they could? If it
Is not worth the price to have this option...I understand that...but to prefer to use a key is odd to me.

... and there is a place on the steering column where you have to put the fob to start the engine if the device battery is empty. Yes, I was refering to the difference between my E82 where I had to insert the fob in a hole in the dashboard and my F22 where I keep the thing in my pocket.

the HK sound IS worth it, the comfort access is not. For females, comfort access may be since they can leave it in their purse and forget about it.. but for males we usually just keep it in a pocket. It's just as easy to reach in and press unlock

Not true. "Sport Line" is standard, but M Sport is a $2K option on all 2ers in Canada..
With the std "Sport Line" you can order any colour available to the 2-series.

Nope, that's for 2015.

For 2016, MSport is standard.

*edit: Note under the standard equipment, on the extreme right column, that the MSport stuff now are included. (710, 715, 754. etc)

I wish the dealerships had a 2 series with the HK audio inside.

Unfortunately they were all sold out, and it was still an option that cost 2k more

Holy sheit!!!! I can't believe they'll not bump the base MSRP by a couple grand - particularly with the low $C at the moment.

Well I think the Euro->CAD still isn't that bad.

But they did remove some other standard features like the auto dimming interior mirror, which is now in the premium package.

The base price went up by $200, and premium package went up by $300.

Furthermore, you can see they completely gutted the executive package.

If there was a 2015 available I might have gone with that instead.

I think the HK sound system is really good. I don't understand all the hate it gets. Yes, it doesn't shake the car with bass or anything, but there is no saying it isn't very clear with 0 distortion when cranked up. The refinement of the car really helps too. Ive been in more sport oriented vehicles with "better" systems that don't actually sound as good due to lack of sound insulation and harsher road noise.

It's priced same as a HK sound system from a higher series BMW, which is 16 speaker, 600 watt system with a graphical equalizer.

Our HK has only 360-watts, 12-speaker sound system, and no equalizer.

We are getting ripped off and that's where the hate is coming from.
