Damn, first time he borrows dad's car

My 22 year old curbs one of my brand new matte black finish wheels while parallel parking... Hell, I didnt even have a chance to post pix of em yet (they look hot with Melbourne red btw)

Dad said - curbs are your enemy when handing him the key, so friggin watch out..I suppose I should be happy its just a wheel and nothing more serious...But damn - first time he's home visiting since I bought the car and then this. UGH!

DAmn, into the wheel repair shop this week...

And while I felt a bit foolish buying the auto parking option, I will confess something similar with either my wife or daughter was in my mind. Or, for that matter, me.

Mine turns 14 in September, right there with you. I say it to him often, "Not this car dude" regarding the m235. When I was 14 My dad had two corvettes, a 68 and a 69, both convertibles. I dreamed of driving them, but never did. For the best I suppose. But still...

The irony - my dad curbed the wheels, not me...I told him many, many times not to park so close to the curb...his response after they were scratched: 'You didn't tell me the wheels would get scratched if I parked too close'

He has a degree in engineering.

Ouch, perhaps have him work it off might be more agreeable.

I'm trying to figure out why he didn't have a rental if he's home visiting. He should be able to afford one. I'm sorry but when the boys come to visit they will get the beater to drive or rent a car.

He's a dirt poor college student and rentals for a month visit would not be cheap...Well, maybe relative to a wheel repair? No, that would not be the case...

We don't have a beater to drive. Other car is wife's X5. That will be his vehicle to use when there is any need to parallel park in the city.

Wont have to worry about curbing the x5's 18's like in my 2.

I let my kids, 19 and 21 drive my car. I cringe in fear each time but what can you do? Can't say you don't trust them and nothing has ever happened. Guess he will be careful from now on, but an expensive lesson. I have curbed two M3s and my 335is myself before I learned my lesson.

I let my then 20-year-old daughter take my then 4-month-old 335 on a 1200 mile weekend road trip to go to a friend's wedding, because it was the most reliable car in the house. The kids are more important than the cars.

EDIT: Saw the post quoted and realized 2000 miles was too much for the trip. Turns out it was 1200. Still.

I figured that might be the case. I hope you get the wheel fixed. Things happen.

I let my 18 year old son drive my E46 M3 to school one day back in 2004 or 2005 and when I got home the entire left rear quarter panel was smashed in. Got that fixed out of pocket for $2,500 but drove it the first day and the car slid out on right hand turns, got out and looked at the wheel and the entire subframe and been bent and the wheel was out of position by and inch or 2. $2,500 later after replacing the subframe my son caught holly hell. Fortunately he's 28 now and has not had anymore accidents, I guess scaring the hell out of him worked.

Corporal punishment is still legal in most of the midwest.
