creaks, leaks, and one of the biggest weight savings you can do. If you are getting a 235, it might not matter so much but with the 228, personally I wanted to squeeze out as much performance as I could.

If there was an option for a glass roof with inside cover that didn't open I'd probably get that over a fully opening sunroof.
Still, I like sunroofs very much.

I don't track.

I agree.
There should also be a credit for those who choose a manual trans over the very high tech and costly ZF 8spd.

I love the 8spd AT, but I don't think it's fair at all that MT drivers have to subsidize the cost of the AT by paying just as much for their BMW.
VW/Audi charger about $1100-$1200 for their dual clutch AT over an MT.
The cost for the 8spd AT is at least that much.
Choosing an MT should drop the price by at least $1000 and more like $1200.

Wouldn't mind having one, but it wasn't worth $995 to me.

i have a sunroof on my e92, i think i have driven with it open less then 3 times in 4 years.

Def getting my 2 series without one.
- more head room
- 1 less thing to creak/rattle/break (the rubber surround is starting to show signs of fatigue)
- large weight savings
- looks alot cleaner without one

I would infinitely prefer to have one. Except I BARELY fit in a 2-series with the sunroof. No way in creation I could fit with a helmet on, and I plan to at least autocross the car. So I ordered the sunroof delete.

What I find HIGHLY aggravating is that you can't get a well-equipped 228i without the sunroof. That was pretty much the only reason I ordered an M235i over an M-Sport Track Package 228i. The fact that on the M235i you effectively pay for the stupid thing whether it is there or not is only mildly aggravating.

I would bet there is a slight positive effect on resale value for the sunroof delete M235i though (assuming the right targeted marketing). They will be rare and sought after by the sort of track rats who like to buy these cars used. Sunroof delete and stickshift for the win!

On the GC, its standard...no extra cost .

I like them..gives me a choice if I want it open or not. As for the one less thing to go wrong, true...but you can say that about all the heated seats, heated steering wheels, Nav, lumbar adjust, auto leveling headlights, and just about any other electrical option you can checkbox on these cars. Moonroofs are probably the easiest to fix.

It's a moonroof in the northern hemisphere, a sunroof in the Southern Hemisphere

The people saying there is no headroom must be 6'8", I'm 6'3" and my son is 6'4" and I can sit in the seat and literally make a fist put my fist on my head (let's say 4") and just touch the sunroof. There actually is more room with the sunroof not less because all you have is about 1/4 inch of glass between you and the top of the roof. If you don't like them fine but taking up too much room is not correct unless you are in the back seat. Go sit in a 2 with the shade open and it physically has to have more headroom than a non moonroof car unless you have no padding/insulation/lining in your non moonroof car.

Have had 2x e46 with sunroof and an e70 with panoramic roof.

I hardly ever used the sunroof and all 3 cars had issues with the roof when I did use them!

Were it not for warranty each would have cost approx $2k to fix!

After the E70 I vowed never to have another car with sunroof. Used far too little and very costly should it break.

The extra headroom is only on the right side of your head. The edge of the moonroof opening cuts into helmet space, especially with the upright position you take on the track. I tried a friend's car before I bought mine, and at 6'1", with a helmet and proper seating position, my head would be wedged against the moonroof opening. I made that mistake in my last car. I suspect some people have a more "laid back" seating position that makes for more headroom.

Not everyone is built the same. I am only 6' 2" tall, but I am built like a gorilla - all torso, no legs. I only have a 29" inseam. I have a friend who is 6' 7" tall, and sitting down in the same chairs I am taller than he is - he's all legs. In a 2-series with a sunroof, my hair is into the headliner, with less than a fingerwidth between my skull and the edge of the sunroof trim. Which is right over the top of my head. My e91 is exactly the same.

Being long of torso and short of leg is especially bad because most seat rails are sloped - as the seat goes forward, it also goes up. I lose even more headroom once the seat is positioned such that I can reach the pedals. It sucks, lots of cars I just flat out cannot sit in comfortably. Though I do find Italian cars to be a perfect fit!

Moonroof is made of transperent glass.
Sunroof is the old-school metal(solid) sliding roof.

Ha!

It's funny that Americans get the stigma of seemingly being the only or most over weight people when all over Europe you see the exact same body types and sizes.
The British and Germans are not a small and light population in the least.
They too enjoy a much more sedentary life while still enjoying the high calorie food their ancestors enjoyed generations ago when physical labor was much more the norm and people needed those calories.

Look at Jeremy Clarkson. He cracks me up how even he makes comments about "fat Americans" all the while with his huge belly easily entering the room before his big fat and LOONNNG head does.

While you're not wrong. On average American has a much bigger obesity problem than any European country.

But, screw that, lets talk about cars.
