That only makes sense to the government.
It was about 50% for each pkg so i got both. So i would end up with 2K in return. I also wanted enough of the options in the pkgs to warrant the cost. But having the return is a nice perk on the other end when buying the new model.
I didn't get the pkgs to get a better return it was just something my sales person mentioned to me when i was trading in my current car.

for me ive always been burned by getting all the tech packages, they seem to depreciate faster. For this one i went cold weather package and xenons and that was the extent of the packages. Dealer said that a stripped 228i will hold its value much better then a loaded one.

Either way its what ever works for you in your situation. Me, I wanted a back to the basics BMW. I decided to hold off on the m235 and hope that when this lease is up the real M2 will be out

So true. My 135i was very basic. This time i wanted all the amenities. All the fun things that you can live with out but are nice to have.

It really differs car to car. The Macan we have coming in May the dealer (client so I trust him) told us to get Nav specifically for resale since the cars he moves without are a tougher sell. In our case I think it matters much less, with folks even willing to pay a premium for manually adjusted alcantara seats for instance.

That's weird, I was able to get the Harman Kardon sound system by itself without any package attached. The car was purchased in the US so I am not sure if that is included in a package in other countries.

Some of these packages are totally useless the way they are configured and overpriced.

First off on a 45k car why isnt sat radio standard. Dick move

Standard sound systems on these cars are junk , need to go for harmon kardon for 800 or so

Leather stand alone is the only reasonable item

Xenons should be standard, bmw is a premium brand last i checked

Dont care for the power seats or sunroof, i had it standard on my 135i. , used it once pr twice a year- adds extra weight

It's standard option. You don't need the premium pkg

I always though you can get leather standalone without the premium package. Some posts mention about only being available with premium.

Just had a buddy ordered his 228i msport with coral red leather and xenon.

Yea leather is separate from prem. Its an 800 difference. Leather is 1400 on its own. Might as well get prem its not going to change you monthly payment all that much

It depends: on a trade, yes. If you are going to sell the car on consignment through an enthusiast dealer (as I did with my 135i) then those items that add weight may be a drawback. They had a 2009 135i that sold within a week due to it not having the premium package: lighter and more desirable for the enthusiast. My 135i 6MT with Premium took over a month to sell......

BTW, I highly recommend this route if you can afford double payments for a month or 2. It shouldn't be an issue, as interest is running so low that you will get 99% of your money back after a couple of months anyways. Local dealer was offering me $27,500 on trade, he sold it on consignment for $33,000, minus a $1500 commission. $4000 more in my pocket; not insignificant. The car he sold for me previous to that was only $2000 more to me over what the dealer was offering, but hey, $2000 is still $2000.

One thing to consider. When trading in a car, you pay sales tax on purchase price minus trade in value. When selling your previous car, you pay sales tax on the full purchase price of the new car. With the 7% sales tax around here, you would save $1900 tax on a 27k trade in.

This varies from state to state. Michigan, for example, is just now phasing this in over a few years. Check your local regulations.

Should've mentioned - in the US it is a part of the Premium Package.
I test drove a non-premium M235i with the leatherette seats here in NY - no lumbar support. The 2014 335i Sport pack I test drove had the lumbar support.

Lumbar on a M235i is standard M235i standard features at least according to the BMW site.

seating and interior features for M235i
10-way power front sport seats; includes 2-way power-adjustable side bolsters, 1-way manual headrests and thigh support; driver memory for exterior mirror and seat positions (228i: requires power front seats) 4-way adjustable power lumbar support for front seats

And from what my friend has on his 335xi he didn't get premium pkg and does NOT have lumbar.

Seating and interior features for 335xi sedan
8-way power front seats; includes 2-way manual headrests, and driver memory with 2 presets for exterior mirror and seat positions SensaTec upholstery
Split fold-down through-load rear seats Dark Burl Walnut Wood trim with pearl gloss chrome highlight trim
Floormats

The builder on the site definitely shows lumbar with sensatec. Are there any actual pictures of the the m235i without premium?

Does your friend have a 335i x-Drive w/ Sport?

For M235i, when you go to the build your ride page on http://bmwusa.com, mouse over the premium package.

I now see what you mean. It does seem to indicate you need prem pkg to get lumbar. It's confusing but i think maybe if you add leather seats you get lumbar. And sentac leatherette you don't. BMW doesn't make it very clear do they

My non-premium package M235i does NOT have the ability to adjust lumbar support. It does have an adjuster for "seat width", which narrows/widens the side bolsters at your lower/mid back. Kinda nice.
