While I do understand the evolution and the techonlogy I am also against this one for some reason.
When the driving factor is left out, there is nothing exciting about a car.
The ultimate driving machine will become the ultimate taxi machine...
When they will come up with the self driving cars I will buy a horse. I might not be able to drift but at least I am in charge...

I would love to have autopilot when I'm on the highway. It would make 4 or 5 hour trips a breeze. I like having control of my car off the highway though.

If they can do this now how long will it be before you don't need drivers in the race cars? It'll all be about the tech.

I think the 2 series has the best looking front end. I wish that's how the front of the 3 series looked.

Nice tech, but what's the purpose of driving a BMW when you actually are not driving it!? They should put this kind of system in ol' grandma cars like a Lexus, Honda and Audi.

It's nice to see BMW develops this technology but it's completely useless beside the "Chris Harris" like drifting, even then it's not fun if you have the comp drift for you.

However as a result of this technology, I would like to see our cars valet for us, not by some minimum waged HS grad who can't wait to their hands on a M3. I would like my car precondition and fetch for me when I am coming out of a restaurant, shopping or whatever I'm doing!

The benefits to this is more about safety. Not to take the fun out of driving.
A driver could lose control of the car and in most cases panic.
The car than be controlled to a standstill without serious injury or extensive damage to the car.

I see the tech as an abomination not because of the current state of the technology but because it seems to be laying the ground work for what I see as the inevitable march towards mandated self driving cars. The main driving force behind the mandate will be safety.

This is what I foresee happening down the road as well, and it is a frightening thought. Another question is, if autonomous driving cars become mandatory and no one is allowed to drive on their own anymore, what would happen to the auto insurance industry?

Self-driving cars are coming, no doubt about it. I saw a study recently said sd cars here in mass by 2050. Thankfully for me, 2050 is too far out to be of any concern, but the day of the individual driver is coming to an end. For some of the idiots I see on the road, may not be totally a bad thing.

But for someone who likes to drive, meh....
