Timeline for change to 240?
Do we have a concrete time yet for when the 235 will transition to the 240? I'm debating on buying now, but I would hate to pick one up only for it to change to the 240 (and new engine) in a year or so.

There was a thread recently about this. Everyone *thinks* it will happen for the 2017 model year but there is no guarantee. I'm in the same position, I was set on doing euro delivery in September this year but might hold off for next year. I'm from Pittsburgh too by the way!

This won't happen until the new generation

No concrete info yet.
I would not get the 240i first year model. New engine = problems.

You will be able to buy a 340i very soon with the same engine, so by the time the M240 comes out it should have the kinks ironed out, only down side is it only has the same power and an M235, but I'm sure BMW could make it higher at any time

2016 models are out with no name/engine changes yet. At least 2017, so you will get the specs and order sheet around June 2016. (I think)

Something about the 240 just now hit me. Although the alphabet soup name of cars has really taken over the car world in the last 10-20 years, I think naming it the 240 would be bad. While it is old school, it would remind me of the Datsun (Nissan) 240Z that was sold from 1969-1973. Although it would be a complimentary comparison, maybe BMW could use a different number?

Thanks...reason being we actually had one! 5 speed manual with electronic overdrive! It was our first "family" car and a darn good overall value way back when we had our first kid. It was the same price as a Chevy Citation back in 1981, but the space, comfort, and safety made up for the looks. This is a twin I found online, down to the chocolate milk color!
(Sorry for going off-topic!)

Those photos remind me of the Dudley Moore movie, "Crazy People." Only one line I remember from that movie is their proposal for a Volvo ad: "Volvo: Boxy But Good"

My aunt had one when I was a kid. It looked exactly like this. I always thought it looked cool 'for a Volvo'
Back on topic, I'm glad I got my car before the model designation change. 235 just sounds better to me than 240. Of course the car is awesome no matter what they call it. I laugh at all the people arguing over whether it's a "real M" or not. What it is, is a proper BMW no matter the model name. |
