M235i vs 335i
Is it really worth it to buy a similarly optioned 235i over a 335i of the price is within a couple hundred bucks and the weight difference is within 50lbs difference?

-quicker -faster -stops better -gets better gas mileage -corners better -has a better adaptive suspension (IMO) -cheaper -rarer. 3's are everywhere. Folks turn their head for my 235i. -Is WAY more fun to drive than a 335i IMO. |

As others have said the price difference is pretty high. Maybe a m235i and a 428 with similar options will be the same but certainly not the 335i. If you're stuck maybe you should look at other factors like size, feel driving etc.

I was pricing the M235 and the 335 Msport with similar options on Edmunds and they both ended up at roughly $50k US. Both with nav, manual, etc, and the weight difference was surprisingly similar.

well not sure what edmunds is doing but a base M235 is 43k and and equivalent base 335 is $50k as I posted in the link...
There is no way you can price a similar optioned M235 and 335 and have same price... do you have the edmunds pricing sheet for both like you configured them? options price is similar or a bit more for the 335 so at least there is a 7k difference |

335 is a completely different family car and not in the same class and sport than the 235. Comparing a 335 to an M235 is like comparing wine to tequila..... Price is not the right equation that counts in this comparison.

Did you put the MSport package? Cause the M235i comes with it standard but cost $3,100 on the 335i. Also selecting Dynamic Handling Package with MSport package is not available which is another $1,000 on the 335i but comes standard on the M235i. The automatic transmission with paddle shifters cost $500 when it's standard on the M235i. The MSport brakes cost $650 which again is standard on the M235i. Plus it's faster than the 335i. Total cost of $5250 extra on an 335i that's standard on a less MSRP in the M235i. And now you have to add premium, technology, and whatever else you want that brings the price in the high 50s.
Let's face it, the M235i with it's standard features has great value compared to other BMWs in the lineup.

Okay guys. You sold me on the M235i. What's the true weight of an optioned M235i? I was hoping about 150-200lbs less than a similarly equipped 335i.

I've never seen such a bunch of weight conscious guys in my life. :/) you guys are worse than every gal I've ever known. :/)
Now, here's brilliance, if you're so weight sensitive for your car, would you go on a diet and shed some poundage just for speed gains? This sounds like a Dr. Phil show in the making… |

probably cause the M235i comes with a lot of more standard equipment that adds weight... and the 335 weight you see it's for the base model without all the standard stuff that the M235 already has....

Well I have a 335i with the N54 now, tuned and modified and it is as fast as I would want it. A lighter weight car with similar power and good suspension would be nice. I'm just seeing about the same weight and smaller dimensions in the M235i and still close to $50k thinking it's not quite worth it. I'm sure I'll have to drive it to find out.

I see your point..... I would probably keep your 335 then....
I mean the m235 has some nice features like tire pressure and temp, laptimer etc.... but your 335 is pretty sure more powerful then... I have to say the M235 sounds really good... But the original question was... if you were to buy a new car, would you buy a M235 or a 335.... and the answer to this I would say is buy the M235 cause it's cheaper, faster and lighter.... unless you need the extra seats.... Now if you already have a modified 335 and you have no mechanical issues... I don't see how you can justify spending $50k.... I guess it depends how much you can get for your 335 but with all the mods might be a tough sell |
