Halogen to Angel Eye conversaion

Hi guys,

I love my new 230, but I have one regret: not getting the lighting package. Does anyone know of a place (NYC, NJ or Philly) that can facilitate the conversion from halogen to the angel eye?

Call Matt Bean at Thomson. If he can't help you he will know who can.

Would you consider a retrofit? Cesar at Lightwerkz in NJ performed one for my 228i and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I've been meaning to take some pics of my car for some time now, but they do have a factory like appearance on the car. I'll try and take some this weekend.

The functionality on these is great, pretty close if not better than factory, and you do get the angel eyes. The downside is that they didn't do the brow or change the high beam to a projector, as they are really focused on the functional aspect of it.

Maybe you can discuss the brow with them. I asked about the changing the high beam, but they said it wasn't worth it since they would have to charge me for parts and labor, and that would increase the price considerably for something that wasn't going to be functional.

It was pretty steep, at about $2,000. I was hesitant to do it, and I had the quote in hand for about 6 months before I bit the bullet. I researched other retrofitters, and some were cheaper, but I wasn't convinced with the quality of their product. My understanding is that Lightwerkz is one of the best in this field, and they have a good warranty for this kind of job (5 years on parts, lifetime on labor).

I researched for about a year, and wanted to use an OEM Xenon setup, but when it was all said and done, that was going to run me about $3,500 and the result wasn't going to be exactly like OEM since there are internal parts that can't be purchased.

Do you live in NJ? I'd love to check out your car to see if I really like it.

I don't live in NJ, I'm based out of Puerto Rico.

I actually bought a new set of halogen headlights on ebay, and had Lightwerkz perform the retrofit, and ship to me the completed product which I had installed at a body shop in less than a couple of hours.

If you're in New Jersey, they'll do everything for you, however they said that BMW retrofits are very time consuming due to the glue and plastics used from the factory making the job more difficult than other brands. They said it takes about 5 days to do.

Do a site search here - somebody recently posted with some really bad results (defective, and they would not repair/replace - may not have been exactly what you are planning, though). This may turn out to be way more expensive than it is worth - I have the xenons and love them, but if I had the halogens I'd make do with good aftermarket bulbs rather than drop several grand on the upgrade.

Currently I put in the Sylvania ultra brights and i'm still not that happy. That's the only reason I wanted to upgrade.

May be too simple, but LOTS of these come from the factory mis-aligned (mine were too low, and it was really disappointing until I realized what was up). Have you checked that? Dealership seems a bit touchy about admitting this too: when I asked them to check, they definitely made a change, but then told me 'they were spot on' and did not need anything.
