Why do I have this feeling like you recently stated how much you dislike their service? lol, was this a repeat incident?

I see how you may feel, but I don't see abuse, here. Maybe a bit of an "extended" road test? I could be wrong, but this could be justified if he's a licensed tech and did a few WOT (no redline) pulls to ensure everything is operating as per norm..Just a thought, but if you have a bad feeling about these guys, just stay away. My $.02

I don't see anything egregious here. Honestly I don't mind if they push the car if it helps them make sure nothing is wrong or diagnose a problem. This seems normal to me.

Also if you haven't already, might want to check your local laws around dash cams and privacy laws.

Yeah, I don't see the point in this test. They definitely don't do this with my M235 in the US after an oil change. What would really tick me off is them romping on the car with cold oil and cold ATF. That's terrible on a car. It takes a good 10 minutes of driving to get cold oil up to temp and ready for full throttle. They hammered on the car the second it was off the lot and every opportunity he could find including in traffic. Dumb.

You posted a video, I gave an opinion. Then I tried to give you a FRIENDLY warning that you might want to check the local laws so YOU don’t get into legal trouble by posting something on youtube that could be illegal. Where I live it is illegal because we have a 2 party consent system when it comes to recordings. Hence the warning.

You seem like a real jackass so I can completely understand if the dealership doesn’t give a fuck about you or your car. But hey, I’ll just go ahead and shut my “month” over here.

lol @ the nonchalant return to the dealership and to his workstation after the little 'joy ride'

I picked up my M240i at Auto West and I am due for my first maintenance with them very soon. Fingers crossed the guy takes care of my baby. And sure, have a little fun too. Can't really be helped.

I was sympathetic, especially for how he took those RR tracks, until I go to this attitude excretion - somebody trying to help you potentially save your butt and you flame them. Now I'm thinking perhaps it is just Karma at work (and ignorance). Do you talk to the 'lowly BMW techs' and the SA this way too? I can only guess what the mechanic's version of the 'special sauce' is.

Looks like the worst "joyride" ever.
O.P. Looks like a legit BMW sanctioned "after service" test run to me. Hard for me to believe that the service tech was doing that for "fun".
As for "flooring" the car, I'll confess that there's not too many days when I don't drive like that. These cars are built for that.

The only thing I find surprising is that that left your dash cam on. Whenever I get my car back from BMW service, the power cord has been pulled out of the dash cam.

Your oil was cold for the first few romps on the throttle and the tech should know better. That's an example of why any trip to a dealer involves me telling them the car is not to be washed or driven off the lot. If they need a test drive, I'll go with. I had a cold Viper engine blown up on a tech drive and they tried to say it wasn't their fault. They bought me an engine, eventually.

I don't see any huge issues here, however, I also don't see the need for an extended test drive after a simple oil change. I have been changing the oil on my vehicles for 30 years and starting the engine and looking for leaks is really all that's necessary with an occasional a quick trip around the block just to be sure everything is fine. Pulling the car out of the service bay and parking it in the lot for customer pick up would identify any leaks. Looks more like a waste of a Service Tech's time more than anything. If he/she does that after every oil change, that's easily an hour out of an 8 hour day he or she could be wrenching instead of "test driving".

No, it's you, OP, who doesn't know {expletive deleted}.

- A test drive is performed on all BMWs after service; it's part of its multipoint inspection procedure. This is stated in places too numerous for me to recall. Do you really think the service tech is going to baby the car during that drive? He's testing it.

- You can monitor your car all you want. You think dealer service departments aren't hip to dash cams?

- I guarantee if you make complaints such as this known to this dealer and others, you will be earmarked by all six of the Vancouver-area BMW dealerships. You're probably already in the general system as a 'problem customer'. You don't think dealerships track customers like that?

My advice: Grow up, understand how the world works (not just how your world works), and act accordingly. You will get much farther in life with that attitude than your current one.

As Crocodile Dundee said, "Just kids having a little fun."

Seriously, if the only service to your car was an oil change, I don't think that warrants a test drive. Simply starting the engine and then letting idle for a few minutes in the service bay is perfectly adequate.

Also part of "growing up" is realizing the benefit of developing relationships with people. I take my cars to 3 different dealers for service depending on what I need done. All of them take me with no appointment, give me a loaner, know not to wash my car, and if they need to test drive someone I actually know and trust is behind the wheel. I'm not a dick about things like only the most senior mechanic touch my car even just to check my tire pressure, but at the same time respect is a two way street.

If so, BMW is skipping a step after performing my routine oil service and inspection.

15 years of owning BMW's and only having oil changes done at the dealer and not ONE time has my car been test driven. (I can see directly in the service bay where I sit)

Now if you are talking about Canada, that may be a different story.

The two BMW oil changes I've had result in 0.1 miles of driving. Basically from the lot into the shop and back out again. I do my own oil changes (including changes between the BMW free ones) and I've never taken my cars out for a hard run after an oil change. I simply do the change and then start the car and let it idle for 5 minutes. I inspect for leaks and then I'm done. If it's going to leak, it will do so immediately.

There may well be some sort of liability thing where do any work on car = test drive to ensure proper function, to protect dealership and car owner. No idea what the legal environment is like up there, but purely from an underwriting perspective that dealer may have something in the language of their policy.
