I sat in an M235i convertible at the dealer today (and test drove an M235i coupe), it definitely left me wondering if an M2 vert is in the works.

I was all set to order an M235i convertible but it just doesn't look aggressive enough and I can't get it in a decent colour so have decided to await the M2 convertible. Since they've already sorted out the roof mechanism, I'm hoping they'll lauch the convertible version soon after the coupé. Please give us orange or yellow Scott ;-) and make sure one can fit a tow bar at the back.

Yes I visited the showroom recently and was fairly impressed with the 2 vert. M2 vert would be very appealing. Shame about the old skool ariel on the boot though hmmm, not a deal breaker of course!

I had to look this up. I didn't even notice it at the dealer but now I can't stop staring at it. Why the heck did they put an old school antenna on the rear of the car??? Perhaps they'll ditch this for the M2.

Many convertibles have this not just BMW's.

The FM antenna is often built into the rear glass of the car. When you don't have rear glass that stays in place you need a stubby antenna unfortunately. It is possible to stick the antenna elsewhere they just didn't.

Gotta fill all the holes in the market so I could see it. Would look cool.

Personally I wouldn't ever own a convertible. If I was in a top down mood I would just jump on motorcycle.

That and the classic problem of more weight, and the possibility of less torsional rigidity.

The 2 series vert is a damn solid car. Torsional rigidity was a big problem when cars were all floppy messes. Chassis analysis is far better then it used to be which means even the verts benefit from a lot more stiffness then they used to.

The car is heavier, but at the end of the day some of us spend more time at the beach then we do the racetrack. I spent a good part of the weekend hooning around and never did I notice an ounce of chassis flex that would stir my confidence in the car or lower my enjoyment. It has the added benefit that I get to hear the sound of the straight 6 from behind my head, not through the speakers.

A motorcycle will also get you killed if you're like me and live in a busy and heavily trafficked urban area where 90% of drivers are busy texting. I do not have a single friend that rides here that hasn't been in a major crash and know several people who've been killed. I'll stick to my airbags and crumple zones.

As long as BMW can do the business case to determine they can sell enough M2 verts to cover the development and homologation costs then they'd do it. Since the M2 won't be a limited edition like the 1M I hope we'd see one.

"Who are you my mother?" (New york accent for fun) If a bird hits or shits on either one of our heads, who will be better off?

All the gear all the time and death is a part of the game, you need not remind me.

But in all seriousness weight is weight and that is a negative. I did stress possibility of less stiffness. The M2 better have more torque than the M235i so it would theoretically be a bigger issue.

"If I was in a top down mood I would just jump on motorcycle." Unless it rains halfway or you get a package, or you have to look nice for a meeting and then motorcycle fails.....
