At Tail of the Dragon, I still think I'd prefer an M235i over an M3 (flamesuit on). It's just a nimbler car from my experiences... not that it means much, I'm not pretending I'm a fast driver by any means. On an autox course, mountain run, and that kind of stuff, an M235i would be my choice. On a proper track, then I'd go M3. Put those 2 together and you have an M2 which is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I'm damn excited about this car. |

A general question: If im the kind of guy who mainly drives my car on the street, stop light to stop light, and dont plan on tracking often(nearest track is 4 hours away) should I even consider the M2? Or should I be looking at cars like the CLA45 or RS3?

Absolutely yes. I've never needed to go to the track to enjoy my cars everyday. Now if you are expecting to beat people at lights, then the rs3 is for you. But I still believe you can enjoy the M2 everyday

I honestly wish you were closer because I really would give you this thing for a week - I wonder if you would have a stronger or different opinion after a great deal more time in the car. We definitely agree that the M3 underpinnings on the M2, in the 2er size range, is going to make one hell of a car.

Saw this in several places. So if the VW Golf R400 actually is going to happen and if comes to the US then it certainly has to be a consideration.

Agreed, although the DSG in the RS3 is leap years ahead of that DCT in the CLA. By all accounts, the ZF8 sport auto slushbox performs better.

If it is too expensive, and not big enough difference between the 235 or 240 when it is out.
On the performance side, I don't think there will be an issue, where I see there potentially being a similar limit, is maybe with aftermarket tunes + bolt ons if they hit similar limits since the M2 will be using an uptuned n55 anyways. But really assuming the car doesn't cost north of 55k for a base model, I would likely get one when my lease is up. I mean lets face it... the likelihood of BMW screwing this up is pretty low.... the 235 is already awesome, if they lighten it up, stiffen it up, and give it more power... how could it possibly go wrong... except in price. |
