Oil check failure / New oil pump?

Hi, i just gave my M235 for a checkup because I could not check the oil.
And I read her and there; Oil level sensor replacement.

But my garage called and said:
Didn't help, and to make things worse I am now supposed to get a whole new oil pump. This is like open heart surgery right?

Car is running fine, I just came back from a tour though Spain.
Just want to check the oil levels but this is an awkward surprise.

I got almost 130K KM on it now.

Are there any members with knowledge on this?
Advice will be greatly appreciated!

In terms of complexity of repair, I wouldn’t say this is quite open heart surgery. The shop will need to drop the front subframe to get to the oil pan and oil pump. Not sure what the going rate for the parts are, but you are looking at a new pump and oil pan gasket. Labor is the worst part, I would be shocked to get the job done for much less than $2k. Now, the question of do you need this repair done? Does the car have oil pressure? The shop should be able to monitor this if they have a good OBD tool. I’m not overly familiar with how our cars check oil level, other than it raises the RPMs a bit, so I assume the oil pump is involved. Replacing the oil pump so you can check your oil level does seem a bit excessive, but it may be required. Hopefully someone with more insight into the system can chime in.

Thanks for clarifying this.
He will now try first some other things before installing a new pump.
Hopefully that works...
