I was looking for a car yesterday for my daughter and we looked at the Optima EX. That is one helluva car for $22K. Leather seats, Alpine stereo, panoramic sun roof, super comfortable seats, very nice fit and finish, interior that looks better than a Bimmer, and a 10 year warranty to boot! Not super fast, but that's what I was looking for for her. Kia's got some sporty cars and with the addition of a chief engineer from the M Division, they might be a car maker to watch.

I would stipulate in his contract that he can only drive kia's. I know I would be miserable going from Beemer handling to...just about anything else...within reason.

Having rented the Sonata twin, I must agree. For about those dollars, I'd prefer the new 2015 Golf or Mazda 6....most SPD (soul per dollar) at that price range for something also practical.

I agree. That's why I'm getting a bimmer and my daughter is getting an Optima! I was just saying that, for the money, it's a great car loaded with just about every option imaginable. They've over produced them, the lots are full of 'em so you can get a deal below invoice AND they have a $1,500 rebate deal going on. It's the perfect first car for a young driver. She can buy her own "soul" when she gets older an can afford it.

Fortunately the daughter part of her realizes how lucky she is too. She's a great kid.

Like minds again! My two kids' first vehicles were a short wheelbase minivan and a 2 door Cherokee (the old XJ). They appreciated having anything, and now in their 30s, worked up on their own to a Volvo and BMW, respectively. The theory works!

I never meant to compare the Kia Optima to the 235. That would be ridiculous. I was just saying that dollar for dollar, I found it to be a very impressive, very attractive car with lots of options standard. With a 100K warranty, you simply can't go wrong. Great for a kid's first car or even a daily commuter car.
