Retro heated steering wheel

One option on my prebuilt 240 I would have got was the heated steering wheel.

Is it possible to retro fit this? Dealer says no as always, but I don't see why not?

Needs the wheel, the button and wiring, and probably coding, anyone done it? tips / costs?

Thanks

This is from the F30 forums, but it may start you down the right path.

I thought I might have wanted this, but so far, the heater warms up so fast that it hasn't been much of an issue. I'd spend a month or so with it in the cold to see, before you sink a whole bunch into parts. If I was going to change s/t about my wheel, it would be a bit more padding, and nice leather or alcantara (the leather wheels I've tried in 2's and 3's were padded nice, but the leather felt slippery/hard, worse to me than the sensatech). I feel too dorky to use driving gloves, but it is the obvious solution.

I L-O-V-E the heated steering wheel (first time I've had one) and would not buy another car without one, even though my 2 doesn't see the snow. It's great in so many other settings when the temps drop and the steering wheel substrate seems the last to be wiling to absorb external warmth. If you can somehow make this work, by all means, it's a great feature!

Well, when I turned mine on after the car was outside in 15 deg weather, the steering wheel finally got warm when the heater was already blasting hot air.

But I guess it helps if you don't wear gloves like me.

Yes, not having a layer of thermal insulation on your hands would hasten the time to when you feel the warmth! But, even when the heater is first blowing warm air, it still takes quite a bit longer for the steering wheel to also become warm than it does for the interior cabin temperature. I'm sure we've all been in cars with warming ambient air but ice cold steering wheel rims!

My car was ordered (not by me) with Heated Seats, but no Cold Weather Package. I still have trouble wrapping my head around ordering a $58K (sticker) car and saving $200 by ordering the stand alone "Heated Seats" as opposed to the "Cold Weather Package".

All that said, I don't see the value in trying to retrofit it. Lots of other places to spend modding $$$ IMHO.

Got it in my X3 and 228ix. Love it.

Been using it every day.. It's one of the best options on the car.. For reference, mine at 15F heats up almost immediately. No gloves required.

Now I'm just wondering where the option is for turning the steering wheel to 15F in late July.

I think I would almost use that more.

This is the first car that I've ever had one in and I also LOVE this feature so much. I work outside most of the time so on cold days when I get back in my car it's and instant hand warmer. It gets hot fast and I usually have to turn it off a few minutes after I start driving and my hands are warming up.
