I Drive Updates?
My m235i (2016 MY) was manufactured in August, 2015 and has been on the dealership showroom pretty much exclusively from September, 2015, until I purchased it a couple weeks ago. Since it's over a year old, I was wondering if there were any I Drive or computer coding updates that I should have the dealership run?
Also, from what I can tell, it doesn't have Enhanced Bluetooth, just regular bluetooth. Is that something that can be added with coding by the dealer for an additional fee? If so, is it desirable and what features does it add that I may not have? Thanks

The reason I asked is back in August when we were looking for a new car for my wife we spent some time with an X3. Ultimately, she liked the Audi Q5 a little better. At any rate, the layout and info on the X3 I Drive screen was different than the layout and info on my M235i. As I recall, it had more in the way of icons graphics and less in the way of lists. I also seem to recall being able to have radio / entertainment info on one half and navigation and maps on the other side. Did I imagine this? Maybe some of you that have a 2 Series and an X3 or other BMW could comment.

I dont know when they changed to the new idrive format, i got my 240 last week and it has the new interface.
It does not have the enhanced bluetooth that gives you the office functions, but i understand this can be coded, but a dealer will not do this for you, i have checked. (Theyre not allowed to and will state it cannot be done) The new models include free map updates every quarter now as well, and you can purchase additional functions online via the link above, include a months trial on online entertainment (which i had in my previous car and never used) |

To add various combinations to the screen, press the option button , select split screen and then choose what you want displayed, its that simple. Updating is automatic for the most part. Often when you select things like BMW online it show "updating data" then opens. Bets to sit down with the manual.

Basically, your car has iDrive 4. You cannot, at this time, upgrade to iDrive 5 because your early-gen EVO HU may not have the processing power necessary to run it.
iDrive 5 first appeared in the new 7 Series for the 2016 model year. The first 2 Series models to get it were the second (and last) run of 2016 M2s in June/July 2016. (The "Launch" M2 run had iDrive 4). iDrive 5 is standard on all BMW models for the 2017 model year. Also: iDrive 4 has split-screen functionality.

I must have v5 then since it was only just built, and the interface is the same as the 7 (with less James Bond options)

1). Gesture Control (7 Series, probably other high-line models) 2). Touchscreen (new 5 Series, I think, and likely 3/4 Series starting in 2018 and 2 Series starting in 2019. Simlilar trickle-down will likely occur in Xx Series and BMWi models) 3). iDrive controller rotary selector 4). iDrive controller touch pad, in the center of the rotary knob iDrive 4 is designed for just 3). and 4). above.

I drove a '17 3 series loaner recently with iDrive 5 and liked it more than my '16 235's iDrive 4. I always like refreshed user interfaces and this was no exception. Wish we could get it into our cars.
