The sketches are, of course, just sketches, but to my eye they seem to indicate that the designers were originally going for a smaller, more Porsche-like vehicle.
You'd want the wheel and tire insurance if you bought any of those three.

I noticed that too. I had a C5 corvette when they were new and that car was a joy to drive and surprisingly practical for temperate climates. The build quality was pretty horrific but that was par for GM back then. I got into a C7 once (was considering buying one) and didn't even bother driving it. The door sills and side skirts were so wide combined with a very low seating position that ingress and egress were such a PITA that I no longer cared to know how it drove. I don't think the new 2 series will be that bad but it does look wide enough to be mildly annoying and get scuffed up under normal use.

I totally agree. But the scuffing alone would drive me crazy.

The overall car will be a winner for BMW. And it is growing on me. As others have said, this will be an amazing car for many. I just can't get over the rear end...

Those sketches looked great. Too bad they clearly lost their way therafter.

My wife drives a 2016 X3. She got a new X3 as a loaner a while ago and was horrified by what she called the Las Vegas treatment of the instrument panel and center display. She vowed to keep her current car, for which I am very grateful.
There is a bit of this in the new 2-series interior. Not much to my liking either.
