I'd rock the M2 once they have SO available. For now, 228i M-Sport in red

I actually took the time to read the article instead of just glancing over it. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I still don't like the Buick comment, but it wasn't a bad article overall.

The M240i is going to narrow the M2/M235i gap considerably. Check the LSD box on the order form and you're practically there

The 228i was over two seconds slower than the 235.
I have to agree with you on this one. I really wanted a 228iMSport but in the end got a fully loaded M235 for the same price. Looking at times, road holding, etc, they time between the M2 and M235 was WAY closer than I would have guessed from the review.

My issue with the car is more about suspension, especially changing direction.

Whatever, all is good. This always just means BMW will keep up the improvements.

I test drove the M235i when it came out and was underwhelmed; it felt all too tame compared to my 135i with M-package, perf exhaust and PPK. So, I hope the M2 is a step beyond the M235i or I'll be looking for something other than a BMW. Oh yeah, test drove the M4: big, heavy, de-fanged beast and not impressed.

This article was biased towards the 235 because all 3 versions of the 2 series can be almost identical in performance and standard/optional features, thus, making hard to pick a 'winner,' so they journalistically cut the baby in half.. I own a 235 but I love the look of the M2, however, IMHO the only thing the 235 lacks over an M2 is the active smart "torque vectoring" LSD which is capable of 100% lock-up VS the 235 optional mechanical diff.. This is what makes all M drivers look like superstars and makes these cars stand out from the bunch.. It's sad it is only limited to official M cars but I get it.. So to make a long story longer, don't get bent out of shape over this reviewer's opinion, as BMWs are spec so close nowadays, it's harder to differentiate them as we would like..

So M2 has same mirror as 228i
ill go with 1M

For some reason, i dont feel love for these M2s
This article kind of proving my theory behind M2 production which is just extending M line up with already high performance M235i

There was much more gap between 135i vs 1M than M235i vs M2

I have no interest in the 2-series specifically, but the article is well-written and enjoyable to read. Any thoughts?

Makes me feel good about my car. They are rough on the M235i though...
I know! The M235i has won a ton of awards and recognition. Maybe after driving the M2 it didn't match up? Sad.

I was greatly amused by this article. Mainly because I own a 228.

Perhaps it felt tame because it was so much more refined? The M235 is faster and better handling than the 135i with M pack and PPK. Same brakes though.

I was that article at the airport last week. What caught my eye was the magazine cover was the headline.

E30 M3 Heir Apparent.

Then they reviewed the cars, but the headline had me and my wife doing a double take.

One interesting note, the M3 costs more in 1988 than it does today.

Inflation Calculator
$ 34000 In 1988
to 2016 Calculate

Value: $69,686.74

Annual Inflation: 2.60%
Total Inflation: 104.96%

I saw a M2 the other day (driving on freeway). I drove next to it and looked at it for about a minute...said to myself "thats it? Thats the M2?" Not impress at all.

I think because it starts in comfort mode where its saving gas...plus the numb electric steering

Really? The article seemed clearly biased towards the M2 and 228i. I got the impression that the magazine drivers weren't all the impressed with the M235i.

Regardless of the magazine driver's bias, I believe that the three 2-series cars are notably different - all in good ways. But, not equal. Each hits a particular type of driver/enthusiast quite well, I think.

Agreed.

I took my '91 318is out today, man, it's so fun to rev the snot out of the M42! I even stayed neck and neck with a 2000's era 'stang...poor guy.

The article wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I love my 235, and maybe because I do not road course my cars, always been more a straight line person for the most part, I can say in that respect Ive never had more fun in the least powerful slowest version of a car. No offense to 228 owners but I would never buy one. Further I would pass on the M2, although I like the looks, it simply isnt worth it considering I already have a 235.

True. Also, enjoy the E90 330i. One of the all time great BMWs in my book and also underrated. I miss mine all the time.

Wow what a bash fest.. Can't believe some of the stuff they said. Even tho the e90 330i is one of the best handling cars I've driven to date. So I get what their saying to a point.

But to bash on the 1m and the 235 like that.. Ouch..

Give me twin's anyday.. Why do u think the m3/4 has twins? Why do u think the 1m stayed with the twins? Why did the 335is stay with the twins? Hmm.. Sorry but after owning many m cars and non m cars and driving 500+ hp fbo n54's..

Give me a 1m any day of the week. Hands down.

Still tho.. Way to much bashing.. Buick? Ha

Last year I was getting an M235 but instead got a 228i. And now M2 is on the way so I'm happy! I love my 228i even more with this article. I have autocrossed with it so much fun!

Depends on the track, difference between M235i and M2 on track can be huge. See EVO M235i vs M2

M235i = 1:38.9
M2 = 1:35.6

The M2 is overpriced,theM235i handles like a boat and the 228i is underpowered!!
Yet somehow they are all great cars!!
