It is good to know that there are other 2ers out there that have the weathers strips installed. Mine was one of the first 2016 models built in mid July. It makes sense that they didn't have enough in stock or they just "forgot" to install it on one side.

You must use your turn signal when you change lanes all the time.

I checked mine. 2016 XDrive convertible. I just took delivery at the PCD in Nov. no weather strips.
I would like to know if it makes any appreciable difference in ambient wind noise.

Feb 2015-build 228i M Sport. No strips, either side.

Based on the Euro poster and other feedback, it seems that this may be a sound isolation measure for 2016 MY 228is only. Simply put, BMW is installing them on cars that aren't outfitted to be performance-oriented. The bastard of this so far is the OP's one-off installation on his 235 -- which suggests to me that it was either a factory error or a measure taken after production to quell some sort of resonance noise discovered.

All speculation, of course ... but man, these little 'adjustments' BMW makes without even notifying techs or SAs kind of chaps my hide a tad ...

We need an M235i with production date of 10/3/15 or later to confirm your theory.

Bingo.....what we would have called a V2 engineering change to the base vehicle.

When mine arrive and are installed, I will report back with observations.

Got a call from the dealer that the parts have arrived....faster than we thought. I'm going in tomorrow for installation. As long as this weather holds, I should be able to experience any difference over the weekend.

The BMW parts department called to tell me that my missing weatherstrip had arrived. I drove over to pick it up and decided to install it while in the parking lot. It took less than 10 minutes. It is a dry friction fit, glue is not necessary. I meant to take a pic of the part but it only goes in one way. The part had F23 embossed on it. Thanks to Sportstick for digging up the order number. I attached a pic of the order invoice.

I think it does reduce wind and outside noise. Since my car came with one already installed on the passenger side, I wanted it on both sides.

It's a boring drive home from the dealer so I decided to experiment with EcoPro mode, which I've never used, and the cruise control. I was amazed that it got 38.7 mpg at an average 71.5 mph. That's crazy! Disclaimer: sometimes it only gets 12 in town due to my heavy foot.

I now know why these parts were developed. There was a noticeable difference in two of three primary sources of noise. First, road noise was most noted for reduction. Apparently, these seals block the path from the front wheel well area. Second, engine noise....no, not exhaust sound, but engine roar from the engine compartment was somewhat muffled, although not to the same degree as road noise was quieted. I did not find any change in actual wind noise, which is more a function of upper body air flow.

AlpsRider, you caught a break, as the part number on your receipt is for a less expensive part, but one which is oddly co-listed as part #5 on the BMW parts explosion diagram. I spend some time with the parts manager, and the actual parts you and I got are represented by the part numbers I listed earlier. Your part on the invoice is for a "frame", not a "seal". We could not figure out what the "frame" was, but the actual seal parts total about $49 for both sides. My wonderful dealer installed them for no charge. I think the improvement is worth that cost.

My comments apply to a coupe bodystyle. I do not know how significant the effect would be on a convertible.

I guess for 13 bucks a pop including tax it is a very worth while modification if you care at all about cabin noise. That is why I posted the invoice for others to use. I'm glad your mod worked out.

Yes, but just to be clear, it seems yours was an error at the Parts Department counter to your advantage. The actual part you showed us (and which I got) is not the part number on your invoice. On the BMW exploded parts diagram, it seems to be affiliated, but the actual tall piece of black rubber is the part number I listed earlier for a "seal", not a "frame". Note your invoice has the first few letters of the word, "frame". It's an understandable error when the generated the invoice once you see the parts diagram. Others most likely won't get the same $13 price....the actual price is also shown in my earlier post.

For whatever it's worth our August 2016 build '16 xdrive vert does not have the seals on either side.

Candidly I'm somewhat disappointed how noisy our car is with the top up. We own two other verts, a Mercedes SLK (of course no way the 235 is going to be as quiet as the SLK, which has a folding hardtop), and an 11 year old Porsche Carrera, which has a very well insulated soft top.

Guess I incorrectly assumed the 235 top would be as well insulated as the Porsche given that they share the same convertible top supplier.

My guess is that in my case trying the door seals will be a wasted effort, but of course I would be interested in hearing the results should any other vert owner try the seals.

Certainly won't hurt! For $49 in parts you can install yourself (I later realized), it's a low risk gamble. One would think, at least with the top closed, the difference should be perceptible.
