Decided to spruce up my 2016 M235i xDrive a little bit; simultaneously change up the looks and get set for a few autocross events this summer.

Started out by updating my wheels and tires. My factory square setup was:
- 18x7.5 ET45
- 225/40/18 Pirelli Cinturato P7 all season run-flat
- also running 12mm spacers up front, 15mm out back
- each stock wheel and tire is 45.4 pounds

Went with a square VMR setup:
- VMR V804 | Hyper Silver
- 18x8.0 ET42
- 235/40/18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport
- each VMR wheel and tire is 42 pounds

Really happy with the fitment, no signs of rubbing. Got more tire under the car and saved a few pounds! Not sure about the hyper silver on MG yet, but it's growing on me.

A couple more parts are still on the way:
- Dinan springs
- Vorshlag camber plates

Also considering a new spoiler and a splitter ...

Looks great! IMO, the silver wheels add a nice and sporty contrast vs. the monotone gray look with the stock wheels.

I totally agree! I'll bet you're enjoying those Michelin MPSS tires too!

Thanks for the kind comments, the silver is growing on me!

I only had a couple of days to try out the MPSS tires, and they are indeed a huge improvement over the stock all season run flats. Unless it's really cold and snowing Seems I was a bit optimistic on the arrival of spring; the temperatures dropped to 9 and we got a few inches of snow, so swapped back to the stock rubber.

I did get a chance to learn about the glass transition temperature (below this temperature things become hard and brittle), which can be bad news for tires. Probably why Michelin says this:

"At tire temperatures below 20°F (-7°C) Michelin UHP Sport Summer tires may develop surface cracks in the upper sidewall and tread area if flexed. Do not use, roll, or drop MICHELIN UHP Sport Summer tires with temperatures below 20°F (-7°C). If the tires have been cooled to 20°F (-7°C) or less, let them warm up in a heated space to at least 40°F (5°C) before being installed or moving a vehicle on which they are installed. Do not apply heat or blow heated air directly on the tires."

The snow was flying yesterday, so I installed my Dinan springs and Vorshlag camber plates.

The spring install went well thanks to the excellent DIY on the F30 forum:

After the install the rear looked a bit too low, here are my measured drops:
F: -0.4 inches
R: -0.98 inches

The Dinan D100-0927 spring kit for xDrive has a drop spec of:
F: -0.5
R: -0.625 (5/8)

My rear drop seems more consistent with the specs for the non-xDrive kit (which is 1 inch). I have contacted Dinan, will see what they have to say.

Looks good! MG was my second choice. Still sometimes wish I’d gone that route. And stay off the MPSS’s in sub freezing temps. Not only are they a potential safety hazard, they can crack when run in the teens or lower.

Finally got an alignment done after the Dinan springs and Vorshlag camber plates:
F: -2.2 camber, 0 toe
R: -1.8 camber, 1/8 total toe in

It was also warm enough to put the VMR/MPSS combo back on

I never really warmed up to the look of silver wheels on my car. Some days I really enjoyed the contrast, other days it just looked wrong to me.

Decided to make a couple changes:
- powder coated the wheels 'charcoal metallic'
- IND gloss black mirror covers
- BMW side blades
- JBSpeed rear spoiler, body color

I had a few issues keeping the tips of the spoiler attached to the car, see this thread for details:

I think I solved that problem by applying some heat and taping the ends down for a day.

There is still a small issue with the outboard portions (about two to four inches inboard of the tips) sitting completely flat on the trunk lid. I doubt anyone would notice without looking really closely and applying pressure to the spoiler. After looking at it, I may have mounted the spoiler just a hair too far forward. So the fitment of the part is generally pretty good, and my minor issues could be caused by my installation. If the part ever becomes detached again I will adjust the positioning, but not worth tearing it off at this point.

The spoiler has only been on the car for a couple weeks, so can't comment on any long term issues. The part feels well built and the finish looks good. Time will tell.

I appreciate the detailed review. Seriously thinking about getting a design such as this and trying to get a good idea of what brand I want to go with.
