M235i vs s4/5

Straight line, who's winning, and what about on the track?

Jack ass neighbor is always revving his s5 and ripping it up and down the street and it's really beginning to piss me off!

What year is his S5?

It doesnt matter S5 V8 or V6T the 235 will take them easily.

I test drove a 2014 S5 the same day I bought the M235i.
In my opinion, it's not even close.
The S5 feels like a boat.

I easily beat a 2014 s4 in a straight line.

Completely agree. I almost feel like he's trying to blatantly send me a message, like some bratty high school kid.

Came up behind me the other day and started to rev his engine, I pretended like I didn't see him, and cruised along in second gear at 25mph.

I had a 6mt b8 s4. 235 is definitely faster.

It's def faster. My old e86 Z4si with 255 HP was faster so the M235i will slaughter it.

Lit some guy up in an s4 V6T, he launched before me and I creamed him before 65 kph.

The weight difference and the drivetrain inefficiency can't be overcome.

i'm not so sure about the e86 3.0si being faster than an s4

my Z4M Coupe isn't as fast as my S4 in a straight line

M235i should be faster than an S4/S5 though

S4/S5 advantage is awd

Don't know what year it was but it's true I beat a friend of mine from a dig. True story

I think the OP was referring to the B8 S4

I also had the e86 3.0SI awhile back and there's no way it would keep up with an S4

S4 with DSG will get 0-60 in about 4.7 seconds (on average).

My Z4M coupe will probably get 0-60 in 4.8 or 4.9

Z4 3.0SI - maybe 5 seconds?

I'm likely to buy an M235 in around 2 years (possible, but unlikely I'll spring for the M2...we'll see)...anyway the M235 would clearly be my 3rd quickest/fastest car behind both my B5 S4 and GTI...caveat - both are highly modded...but so will the 235 be eventually...and it will still be slower unless I do a turbo upgrade. A stock 235 (or even tuned) would be no match for either vehicle. In fact. about 2 weeks ago I utterly destroyed a modded 135 in my GTI from a slow roll (not sure of mods - but it clearly was by looks, sound and acceleration)

The S5 V6T is slightly slower than a S4. Furthermore, the S5 with a V8 has even less performance - (only better sound)

Here are Motortrend's numbers (keep in mind same magazine - same test):
M235i
0-60: 4.4s
1/4: 13s@106.6mph
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/specs.html

S4
0-60: 4.4s
1/4: 13s@ 105.6mph
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...lac_specs.html

As you can see from above, objectively they are actually very evenly matched and any difference would likely come down to the driver.

Also keep in mind that the tuner market for the V6T is quite robust since it's been out for awhile. Therefore, you're likely to encounter a sleeper S4 with a tune.
a Revo tune for example (just a stage 1 with no boltons!) is putting down 370hp to the wheels and will hit 192mph.

I'll leave out the subjective opinions such as for essentially the same price as a M235i (particularly if you buy slightly used) the S4 is more practical, looks classier, has a more luxurious interior (despite being 6yrs old) and is more prestigious. It also has an actual dual-clutch gearbox and women actually like being in it or being seen in it (if that matters to you), and it has the added benefit of being able to drive to the slopes during the winter.

But I realize that most on this forum will disagree with all of those subjective points as this is a M235i forum. So to each his own. If you disagree so be it, please don't let me rain on your parade.

One thing we can all agree on is that if having fun to you means going sideways and that's important to you, then the M235i is most definitely better in that regard.

Flame-suit on.

lol well you didn't really leave out any of the subjective opinions (although I do agree with most of them especially the practicality aspect). I wasn't aware the S4 was such a chick magnet...I would think most (guy or girl) wouldn't differentiate it from an A4.

S5 beat the crap out of a 435 in one of the recent car magazines but I can't remember which one. Tires hurt the 435. Looked it up it was March Car and Driver and S5 was 4.6 and 435 was 5.2 which sucks.

Yes, I remember that one but it was for manual-equipped cars which are much slower in real-life. Still, despite this handicap 4.6secs for S5 is mighty impressive. Probably gearing and 4WD helped.

I'm still smiling about the earlier comment about the Z4 3.0SI being faster than an S4
