JB4 Interface Updates - Restore Passive Delete Feature (For PC or Android)

Burger Tuning has updated their software to block the use of the passive code delete feature in the United States for all the latest versions and platforms (PC, Android, MAC)

Some people might use this to hide the CEL when running a straight DP for
example. The error is still there, it just doesn't let the CEL turn on.

PC/Windows Users:

If you opt to follow these instructions you can bypass it:

1. Locate your JB4.exe
2. Install a hex editor
3. Goto hex offset 2ce2a
4. Patch the ascii letters S with G, and t with o. So it reads Goates instead of States
- Notice that the letters are spaced out, this is two byte unicode, replace the letters exactly.

5. Also i have a patched jb4.exe attached
Zip password is "2addicts-2017"
-Just copy and replace the original JB4.exe (rename the existing one to jb4.exe.bak)

Android Users

Download the jb4_a164.pdf , rename the file to jb4_a164.apk, uninstall JB4 on Android phone, allowed unsigned apk's in android, and open the APK file to install.

Can this be done if we only use the Rev3 bluetooth and JB4 app via phone? Also, I havnt gotten my car back yet and am still on previous hex, how does JB4 force the update? Will my jb4 not run properly when I get in my car and use the app since I havnt updated to latest firm?

The JB4 app will be updated automatically from your mobile app store, so you will lose the passive delete feature.

This workaround only applies if you are using the standard USB cable running the JB4 windows application.

So what if you don't live in the United States? And what does this do (or limit us to?) I'm new to this feature, bare with me. Cheers,

It just clears codes passively, they are still there, but the CEL is not always on

If you are outside the US, it does not apply to you. It's something they added to go 50 state legal. Blame California.

I actually installed version 8 through the Bluetooth app and I don't have passive delete anymore.

I'm pretty sure it's defaulted to off when installed with either the windows app or Bluetooth.

I've been at this working hard to figure out the Android version, took me a little time to learn Android reverse engineering. I think I have it completed though.

I need a couple testers, please PM me if you run JB4 on Android and are willing to help test. I'll PM you a link to download the patched software.

You'll need to follow these steps:
1. Settings / Phone / Apps / Application Manager / Find "JB4 Mobile" / Click Uninstall
2. Settings / Personal / Lock screen and Security / Enable "Unknown sources"
3. Send the file to your phone, and open it. It should ask you to install it.
4. Open the app / goto Settings / WMI / Scroll down (If you see Passive delete and you can turn it on we're done)

OP! We need your help on the iOS/bluetooth platform. Manually clearing codes every time I start my car is killing me!

IOS jailbreak is still not available. So IOS is safe for now.

My recommendation for anyone that "needs" this feature is to go buy a cheap used Galaxy S4/S5/S6/S7 or other recent Android phone.

Based on the amount of emails i got for passwords, I don't see this as a very needed feature. I got one email for PC, and one for Android. Sooooo i might not even bother with IOS in the future.

I still haven't updated my iOS JB4 connect because of this. Might have to start running an O2 simulator.

FWIW, I did the hex editing myself per your instructions so that might be why you didn't get very many emails. Btw, thanks so much for doing all this as I could never have figured it out myself!

Thats great it helped you out! I figured most people use IOS over Android over PC.. But i started with the easiest one to crack, then worked my way onto Android.

IOS will be a while until i can find someone that either has a jailbroken phone with JB4 installed and can get me the application (.IPA file) , or has it lying around

I have a jailbroken iPad running JB4, please tell me how to get you what you need to help us figure this one out; and I will gladly do it.

I need the JB4 application's IPA file in order to dig deeper.
I have an old iphone 5 that's was updated to 10.3.2. No jailbreaks yet for it, need a jailbreak to get the IPA file, and even once i get what i need. anyone that want's to run the modified app, will need to be jailbroken.

Another member sent me JB4 Mobile A163. It has large buttons now for map switching instead of dropdown. Pretty slick.

I cracked it tonight, and will validate it on my JB4 tomorrow.

Still nothing on the IOS front, until i can get a working jailbreak for my iphone 5. And that's still no guarantee. Apple devices are much more secure.
You should try to connect with Android or PC, change passive delete feature to on, and then switch back to IOS, just don't touch the WMI settings. See if that works and report back.
