JB4 ER Catless DP CEL

I know the downpipe will inevitably cause a CEL on our cars so I had a JB4 put in about 2 weeks ago. Had the downpipe installed yesterday and now there is a CEL. Am I supposed to go back into the JB4 and clear it that way? Asked the guys at the garage and they said with the JB4 installed, I should be good to go right after the install. What do you guys think?

Did you go to your local performance shop to have the JB4 installed?

Mine threw a CEL whenever I drive 50+ miles on map 5, CEL never popped up again since I kept it on map 2

Yeah same place I had the jb4 installed 2 weeks ago, they told me if I held down the minus volume too long it may have turned off the jb4 OR it may just have to be reset since i had it installed before the downpipe to clear the code. And i quote "Also, sometimes holding the steering wheel volume down button to long turns the jb4 off
It won't cause any harm so no need to worry on that end" thats what they told me when i said i needed i looked at ASAP.

Can anyone back up the claims theyre telling me?

Hm, yeah im on map 5 and have not yet tried map 2. What kind of performance difference do you personally feel between the two?? In that case ill probably switch it to map 2 like you. Anyone else have this issue of running a jb4 with map 5 and still getting a CEL with the catless downpipe?

I've diagnosed my issue everyone. That issue being that I am very stupid and turned off my JB4 unknowingly last night from holding down the minus volume button. I was under the false impression that I am unable to switch maps with the N55 engine from the driver seat without hooking up straight to it with the cable (DOY!) Thus I didn't consider it a contributor of the issue. Switched it back to Map 5 and the CEL has disappeared. Thank god I met a fellow M235i owner at said local garage that texted me and told me this!

I like how map 2 is consistent with power all the time and I haven't had a CEL since, regardless of how far the drive. Glad you got your issue fixed though.

If anyone is interested, I'm selling my jb4, ER 4 inch catless downpipe, and BMS intake. The jb and downpipe have been on my car for about 6 months, and the intake just about a month. I'll sell it all for 950$ obo.

I don't know if your still having this problem, but to clear the CEL you just have to plug in your laptop to the jb4 and use the jb4 program go to setting and then hit "Read DME Codes" after it scans the code just hit "Delete All Codes". This clears it for any map and it wont come back unless jb4 shuts off. Hope this helps!

I actually had my JB4 off unknowingly. Switched it back on from the steering wheel to map 2 and the cel disappeared soon after.

Alright so time to revive the thread. Thought i was going crazy with turning off my jb4 from the steering wheel, but it seems to want to turn on whenever i turn the car on now, then it disappears after a few minutes of driving. Doesnt matter if i put the jb4 on and it goes off after a few minutes. It will turn back on when i turn the car back on later. Im assuming the garage did not properly install? Am going to bring it back to get checked out next weekend. I hate the CEL!!!

When the cel does come on. What code does it throw? Is it the cat code or something else?

I would contact burger about this.

Haven't had a chance to check the code yet, but will update when I do. Anyone throw a CEL with the bms intake? I installed that about a week ago, so maybe that could be throwing it?

So when I install my downpipe I should be able to just run map 5 and the CEL will go away? Or do I need to anything manually?

(sorry for bumping old thread!)

No worries.
Yes if you have Jb4 just delete the codes for the first time and they should not show up again ( only the DP codes will be autocleared)

Got it, so the CEL for the DP should clear itself without me having to plug my laptop?

If you already have the CEL showing it will not clear itself.
