Comfort Ventilation = Heat at Rest?

My previous car was a 2006 330i e90, and it had a "REST" button on the climate control panel which allowed air to circulate throughout the cabin after the car is switched off. The air being blown out is heated with the residual heat from the engine, and the REST mode automatically shuts off after 20 minutes. This works great in the Canadian winter when I'm sitting in the car with the ignition off waiting for someone, for example.

After a few years (around 2008 or around when the e90 LCI happened), BMW removed the REST button and replaced it with "ALL" (for selecting single zone or dual zone climate control). Needless to say I was disappointed.

So I got my new M235i on Friday, and I was exploring the menus in iDrive. Under Settings, Climate, I found "Comfort Ventilation". In addition to setting timers to allow ventilation at a pre-set time, it also included an option to activate ventilation immediately. This option is enabled immediately after the ignition is switched off. So far, it seems to duplicate the REST functionality in a limited way. It may not last the full 20 minutes like on my e90, but at least it does blow hot air for a while!

This is just an FYI so my fellow colder weather bimmer drivers can know about this too

EDIT: Here's what I mean by it duplicating the REST functionality in a limited way:

Great news. I hope USA spec cars can do this. I have it in my Touareg and it's an awesome feature.

Good to know.

BTW - even on the newer e9x cars that have the ALL button, you can code the system back to the REST functionality. I have it setup this way on my e91 for the winter, and change it back for summer.

Is it true U.S. spec 2 series cars don't have residual heating but U.K spec 2 series cars do? Has anyone figured out how to add it/code it?
