M3/M4 all the way. I had a chance to test drive a new M3 today and really floor it on a few occasions and let's just say that I have no plans ever stepping up to the plate against a new M3/M4. :-)

Yesterday I test drove a 2015 M3 that I am cross shopping with the M235i. I am very aware of the difference between the cars as well as the fact that the M3 will be the better car. Now will the M3 be $30K better? After the test drive - city streets - I would say no. The performance of the M3 is so great it cannot be appreciated on city streets/freeways...and I only get 2 track days a month. I am leaning towards an M235i with LSD and M Performance rotors.
What is the opinion of other people that drove both cars? Am I crazy?

I hear you, $30k is alot of money...the m3 is in another league but i cant justify $70k (with some options) on a car

M2 will make more sense but its another 1.5 years

I too am cross shopping the M235 and M3/M4 but for slightly different reasons. I'm trying to create a garage for both my wife and myself.

I felt exactly the way you did the M3 is so intense that you can't get into its sweet spot on the street, where as I immediately get comfortable in the M235 and start having fun. It's definitely not as fast as the M3 but for daily driving it is so so much more comfortable. I don't know what they did to that suspension but it's fantastic. The M3 is definitely more ready to pounce but even in comfort the suspension was very tight I would say firmer than the M235 in sport plus mode. And where can you go in LA traffic? Where or what am I going to pounce? Just frustrating. I want an M3, but I'll lease an M235 and get an M2 if they don't go all hard-core on it. I just want a nice small car that has the option to get some luxury and performance. Hoping it will be BMWs Cayman GTS

The title of this thread is what brings on the flames. Come on, its a cardinal sin to insinuate that an M and a non-M are equals.

I drove an M3 this weekend. It's on a whole different level performance wise. It pulls much harder, corners much crisper, and brakes with much more bite. Is it $30k better than the M235i? I would say yes, but I would wait until the M2 and the LCI M3/M4 with ZCP comes out before making a decision. I was worried I wouldn't like my car as much after driving the M3, but I was still quite pleased. It's fast enough, and handles great for a daily driver, and you can still get in plenty of trouble with it on the streets.

Exactly what FunRevn and Basiluf said, couldn't agree more while still respecting Jeremicium's comments.
