F8x Tension struts installed this week - finally.
Initial thoughts:- Geo - No impact on geo from having f8x LCAs pre-installed but will get 4 wheel laser alignment to check. Visuals - Front ride height up a smidge. Front wheels now sited back in the centre of the arch. Controls - Steering feel - too early to say but doesn't feel any different to F8x LCAs only. Mpbbk Brakes feel more responsive. NVH - up by a v small amount but hardly noticeable to my old ears Remus midpipe also installed between my HFC DP and MPE - read this thread http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtop...68909#p1189851. Jay (owner of Crown Classics who did the work ) was very complimentary both about how my car drove but also about Remus midpipe fit and finish. I will be using these guys again - very good service and attention to details. http://crownclassiccars.co.uk/home/1267934 BP

More thoughts:-
Steering feel is same [IMHO] with LCA + TS as it was with LCA's only. Turn-in feels quicker although might be placebo + weather isn't great so opportunities to load up outside tyre are less than in the summer. Braking - much sharper as one might expect with firmer TS bushes but this is marked improvement esp with my setup MPBBK, M4 sport pads and SS hoses. NVH - slightly more in comfort but no change in sport+ mode - I think firmer damper setting is better suited to my aftermarket springs. No regrets at all and TBH I'm happier now that I have matched LCA & TS as opposed dissimilar F8x LCA and F2x TS.

Anyone with 17 inch wheels run the m3 lcas/ts setup? For the winter I actually run 16s but wouldn't mind going to a 17 if I did this mod.

Thanks for the info. I saw a set of 17 inch replicas. Now I have an excuse.
16" do clear the brakes. It's actually written in the manual which size wheels will fit the car and 16 is on the list. I do not/not have the M sport brakes. The nice thing with 16 is that the profile is so big it's almost impossible to curb a wheel. Last edited by casualDIYer; 02-26-2017 at 11:32 PM.. |

Yea, factory shocks and springs. For track, wheels are 17x8 ET 42 Kosei's w/ Hankook R-S3s - 245/40. For winter, 17x7.5 ET 42 Anzio Turns (they are cheap and soft - I've bent 3.) w/ Dunlop Winter Sport 3D.

Update
Finally got the car back to Hounslow Tyres into their Hunter Hawk Eye wheel alignment rig First photo blow was previous alignment result with H&R springs and M4 LCA only. By comparison, 2nd photo below is results from this mornings visit with Birds B1S springs and M4 LCA and TS Camber and castor unaffected by adding M4 TS. Guys had to make some tweaks (one trackday curb too many ops and the car feels far better for it. BP UPDATE # 2 23/1/17:- Done a few miles over the weekend post alignment solo mio - some observations :-
Wasn't complaining before TBF and even happier now. However, could all be placebo but for £50 all in at a local tyre shop am I bothered ?? Should have got this done sooner !!!

The nuts for the hex screws with flange and collar (on the subframe side of the install) are 33326760668 and you'll need 4x of those too. Most important is to get the new bolts/screws though. I used a bmw dealer that had an e-bay store. ymmv |

Looks like nvh and possibly other issues seems to be part and parcel of current camber plate offerings. Time to go with the lcas and ts mod come April.
One question: Did anyone who did this mod need a 1mm spacer for the LCAS? One poster on another post mentioned it but I didn't see anyone else say they needed it. Curious as to why that was the case and whether I need it as well. |
