The paddles or shifter in manual mode allow you to do that as well, as I'm sure you know.

6MT

Currently own 228 8 speed auto with THP. Amazingly quick shifting transmission. Best I have ever driven. Am going back to 6MT for the M2 that I have ordered. If M2 came with the 8 speed it would be a tougher decision, but have to go with manual with the M2. From what I read 8 speed auto will soon be available for M2.

A 7-speed DCT is an option...

Yes, and I have driven both, the 8 speed is the much better transmission in my opinion, I have heard that may be replacing DCT.

Yep, the BMW DCT is nowhere as smooth as the Porsche PDK.

As a younger guy who's owned 3 prior DSG/S-Tronic equipped vehicles, I can say for a DD/12 month car it's the way to go. It does get a bit boring after 2-3 years but power adders have a way of uplifting the whole experience. THAT SAID, having a DD pickup now, and jumping into the part-time m235i (mt), it's the best feeling..

I just picked up a 2015 M235i AT. 15,000 miles with every package and CPO. Having come from a heavily modded N54 335i making 434whp/494lb twq on stock turbos and FBO/Tune.

Totally different beast after two days of "adapting". Full disclosure I'm getting bm3 later today as well as JB4 to stack tunes with Bm3, Stage 2.5 Bucketless LPFP, MPerf Exhuast ( came with it). I'm used to a modified TCU so the sport mode is more up my alley, but still not to my "fun" level. Plan on running an E60 map along with the daily driver 91 pump with a splash of E85. Really looking forward to seeing what this N55 can do, but without putting too much strain on components. Regardless of warranty, I like to keep things fun but not reckless on the financial end that'll have me suffering in the future.
