Auto start/stop question

So lately my auto start stop on my m235i has not been working. It normally works in comfort and eco pro, but it hasn't been. I'm wondering if the fact it's been cold we're I am lately has anything to do with it. Does anyone have any ideas, or should I just take it into the dealer.

Thanks

I was told once it had something to do with temp.

If you look in the owners manual (in iDrive or the physical manual) there are a ton of situations where the car won't auto start/stop. Engine could be too hot or too cold, too cold or hot outside, stop/go traffic, seat belts aren't fastened, etc.

It definitely is temperature related. In my area, the temps can fluctuate quite a bit (Friday it was 73F, yesterday it got down to around 30F). If the temperature is too cold or if the engine hasn't warmed up enough, it will temporarily disable auto start/stop. Perfectly normal.

Having the same issue but it's not related to the cold as it's always between 50 and 75 here in San Francisco.

Wondering if it is related to a low battery? I haven't been driving much recently and I know that the auto start stop will not activate if a battery is low.

However, even after a 2 hour drive today on the freeway and city, my auto start stop was still not working.

When I activate the secret menu, the voltage of the battery reads 12v (when the engine is off). Is that good enough for the auto-start to work?

My issue was definitely the cold, when it warmed up here, it started to work again. As for your issue, It could be the battery, but i'm not sure. I would just take it in if its still under warranty.

There is a large list of criteria the car needs to meet before the Auto Start/Stop will activate. The temperature is one of them - on both ends of the spectrum. If it is above 95 degrees F or below 37.5 degrees F, it will not shut off. Below is a list I found from an old thread of other criteria that needs to be met:

The car is coasting (manual transmission)
Brake vacuum reading is too low (manual transmission)
Insufficient brake pedal pressure is being applied to hold the vehicle stationary (automatic transmission)
Stopping on a hill/downhill with a 12% or greater gradient
If the steering angle is more then 6 degrees
If the steering wheel is still be moved after approximately one second of coming to a stop
The system has not yet be activated by going over a speed of 5mph for automatics, 3mph for manuals since the last engine switch off
If the gas pedal is being pressed (engine must be at idle speed only)
You're coming to a stop from reverse
The driver gets out of the car
If Hill Decent Control (HDC) is activated
If the engine is not up to temperature
If the carbon canister is being purged
if the grade of the fuel is too low for the engine
Transmission adaptation is active (automatic transmission)
The hydraulic pressure accumulator is not yet up to pressure (automatic transmission)
Stop-and-go traffic - system is only activated by driving over 5mph for automatics, 3mph for manuals
Batter charge is low
Outside temperature is colder then 37.4 F / 3 C
Outside temperature above 95 F / 35 C and the air conditioning system is on
Fogging of the windshield is detected by the IHKA system
Climate control system is on but passenger compartment has not yet reached desired temperature
ABS system was used when coming to a stop
